He was on the ESPN Preseason show and he multiple times talked about the Pats' defense negatively. He pointed out "I know it is preseason, but the Pats had the 32nd ranked defense in the league this preseason" (granted he failed to point out that only 27 of the 96 points allowed was by the first defense) and when Trey Wingo asked why no one picked the the Pats for the Super Bowl winner on the panel, Smith replied "Defense wins championships". He did speak glowingly about Brady though.

Don't care what ESPN has to say.

Our defense is a little unknown, but we still have bill, and he is still the same.

Are you FUGGING kidding me. Michael Smith is not "high" on the Patriots. Say it ain't so Joe.

That's it. Screw the Patriots, Im cheering for the Lions this year. Go Barry Sanders go...... Ummmm, he does play running back there still, right.

please god, tell me this post is a joke.

ROFL BSPN.

You guys willingly watch that ****?

2 out of the 3 Super Bowls we weren't picked as consensus favorites. We had question marks and we weren't perfect.

Let 'em talk.

Any judgement based on preseason stats is . . . stupid.

dont care about what he says but objectively its not wrong to say that our defense has questions right now. jason campbell of all people was able to throw at and over our corners for e.g . yes preseason granted but nothing wrong in admitting that we have lot of unknown on defense at this juncture and how it will play out unlike the offense.

Dear Lord! The koolaide is in full effect here. I'll paraphrase: the defense is a huge question mark and it mostly looked like crap this pre-season. Who can argue with this? Also, he said defense wins championships. Who can argue with this?

Personally, I think (hope) the defense - and alll it's new parts and functions - will get better as the season goes on. A geliing of sorts. If the offense is as good as it could be - well, it will carry the defense 'till it gets "there."

I like Smith. I think the D will surprise a tad this year, but I'm not expecting 03-04 results on D... I'm hoping the O is like 07 all the way through, including the final game.

:singing: ............ 10 Char.

With all the new players, I dont think anyone knows what this team is going to be like. I can't wait!!!

Michael Smith hasn't really liked us since his dustup with BB just prior to leaving the Globe. Making prognostications based on pre season games is a fools passtime.

He needed something to support his claims...even if it was foolish.

This is awesome. I hope all the hate from the media concerning our D catches like a California wildfire and spreaddds.

Forget being favorites year in and year out.

Forget going undefeated during the regular season. Where did that get us?

Our D can look shaky to start, but Brady will still win us some games. All of our new acquisitions, the FA's and the Rooks will figure it out, and BB and his staff will figure his new toys out. When the game matters most, they'll be making less mistakes.

Here's a salute to losin some games this yr. and getting angry again. :eat1:

To be honest Im not really comfortable about the D either since Sey left.

The D was not top ten with Sey (in defensive efficiency). It's an evolving process and certainly has room to improve.

Smith is not wrong to question our D.

That's funny, I wasn't real comfortable the last 3 years with the D and Sey was in it. Hmmmmmm, imagine that

Michael Smith is one of the best NFL reporters there is. It's good to see he has a backbone rather than just parrot you guys are the greatest team ever. Don't get me wrong, you're the class of the division and probably sweep it, but there are some major ?s marks. And the Seymour move was great but trading away your best pass rusher won't help you this year.

Hey guys i'm new here... 1st post Woohoo! Anyway i think the Defense is going to be just fine. They have played well in the past without **** Seymour when he was injured. They are younger and faster at LB and Wright, Green and the new guys will fill the role sufficiently i think. Plus i think at times in some of those weird alignments BB likes to use (and some normal ones also) i think we will see Adalius or Banta-Cain on the edge. People forget that Thomas played all over the field for Baltimore and he played a good amount of DL. The Secondary, particularly corner is still the biggest question mark in my opinion.
