Reiss' Final Globe Mailbag

Make a ton of money, as said. A true reporter, dying breed. Actually thinks before he writes.

I'm not optimistic about BSPN. It's an entertainment network.

Here's the real question : do we need to pay a lame monthly fee (like ESPN insider) to get his info and will he keep tweeting or blogging ?

(cue the - "Your name is blue, why won't you contribute here ?" crowd)

Done.

And please tone down the bullying of the past two posts. It's not necessary. You can make your points without the vitriol.
I didn't see any bullying, just statements of fact????????? T

I just reread the posts, and I agree. They weren't really bullying at all. My Bad. Apologies to DaBruinz.

Yes, I read them regularly. He does give his opinion, they are just very low on interpretation and high on observation. He is different from others in that regard. And my opinions of this are just as valid as are those of anyone else.

I did consider that Reiss has a lot of contacts inside the Patriots. That's part of what drives his relative conservatism.

I don't see why you are so worked up about my thoughts. I wasn't being critical, just noting his style and the difference between him and most of his peers. And wondering out loud if the new employer would influence this.

One really has to wonder whether or not you've actually read the Mail Blogs that Reiss has done. There have been PLENTY of times he's gone and given the fans his opinion on what he saw. What Reiss didn't do was put of wild speculative haphazard garbage and try to sensationalize things.

Who are you to determine what opinion of Reiss does or doesn't have much risk to it??? Hell, Why would he want to become like Ron Borges, Bob Ryan, Dan Shaughnessy, or John Tomase... who wildly speculate without much support.

Also, something you clearly don't consider is that Reiss has a lot of contacts with the Patriots. He typically gets the news before others. He has shown himself to be very mindful of that and careful not to abuse the privilege.

While I certainly couldn't care less about it, the mismatch in degree of forcefullness between my unemotional post, and the respondent's intense and critical post, would be considered to be bullying under most clinical definitions of the term.

Has there been any speculation that ESPN lost viewers/clickers in Boston/Patriots Nation over its biased handling of Spygate in particular and its perceived anti-Pats bias in general and is hiring Reiss to rebuild its credibility in our market?

It would be great if that were the case but ESPN has been so tone deaf for so long it is hard to imagine. Perhaps the local folks are given enough authority to actually do something like this.

Thanks Mike,

You always took the high road which is a road less traveled in New England sports reporting. I will miss you at the globe.
