If not for..........

God bless those lovable losers (for the most part outside of 1963). They and their hapless owner labored under lousy conditions and general indifference. To the folks that actually hung in there with them, they DESERVE some of the glory being beamed their way by the current organization.

God bless those lovable losers (for the most part outside of 1963). They and their hapless owner labored under lousy conditions and general indifference. To the folks that actually hung in there with them, they DESERVE some of the glory being beamed their way by the current organization.

I didn't come on board the Pats bandwagon until '74, but yeah... it was still a wild ride then. Those who weren't around before Parcells came into the organization will never understand what it meant each week to get your hopes up and then see them often crash on the rocks of despair.. sigh..

I mean, what other team could boast of signing a player literally out of the stands to play that day, or of having a player take off at halftime to joy ride in his new car, and then crash it before getting back to the stadium? What other fan base could tear down the goal posts, then hit power lines with them while celebrating?

There were times when NE was the "Animal House" of the NFL... and I have loved & hated every minute of it..

i'll admit that I don't have that perspective, but, as i think about your post and a couple of others in this thread, i can say that I envy those of you who were able to experience the franchise in its earliest days. i hardly think of myself as a bandwagoner after following the team through ups and downs (more downs than ups until this decade) over the last 35 years, but my hats are off to those who were with the team from the very beginning.

i'll lift a cold one to all of you tonight!

There were lean years. However, when Holovak took over in 1961, they compiled these records.

There were one or two ties in some years to. As a fan who came of age right about then, those early 60's teams were very good and very fun to watch. Especially the thrill of having our own team! (Boo Giants)

Thanks, man but actually, I started the very same year you did. My dad has loved 'em from the start.

My beginnings came from watching the improbable Pats-Vikings game in 1974 when Bob Windsor tore up his leg and ended his career courageously struggling to make the game winning TD when the lowly Pats upset the Purple People Eaters (at the height of their greatness) on their hoime turf.

Black and white 13 inch TV. I was 9 years old. We were all jumping up and down on the shag rug in the den. I was hooked from that moment on.

I remember that game - I was so proud of the fight they put up to win it, the effort was tremendous. I hated to lose Windsor though, I recall the Pats got him in a trade earlier that season.

I think someone said that the temporary bleachers that were set up in front of the Green Monster were spectacular and close seats. Whereas the seats in right field had horrible sight lines and you may as well have been in New Brunswick.

I love the idea. Since I began watching the Pats in 1969, I had to suffer with those uniforms and now I finally get to watch them kick azz four times in them! (which is more than they could do most of those years)

Exactly......I was in the bleachers in front of the monster,I thought I could touch the players as they went by.

God...I miss the AFL...I was a HUGE Giants fan until about 1963.
I still remember listening on the radio,when Alex Webster fumbled that ball against Green Bay.......I cried and stayed in my room for 3 days.

Man, this is the first thread I've been around where I feel young

I started being aware of them really in the **** McPherson days when I was a preteen.

I got really excited when Bledsoe came into the organization along with Parcells and I've been hardcore Patriots ever since.

But I DO remember 1-15 years which came before and respect how far the team has come.

Still love the old uniforms, though. Red is such a kickass color.

And the Pat Patriot logo is a well-drawn logo, completely different in style to the Chiefs one presented there.

Everybody has their own tastes and that's fine.

Understand, however, that some people see the current logo as a cookie-cutter, corporate copycat of at least 7 or 8 other triangular-profile NFL logos - - all pointing to the right (Carolina, Seattle, Denver, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Atlanta, etc.).

Good for the Philly Eagle for breaking the mold and daring to stand out from the herd of sheep by beaming in the opposite direction.

Pat wasn't afraid to look ya in the eye, snarl and represent!

The old logos are way too goofy for my tastes. They look like cartoons, not logos. Then again, the pats already had the flying elvis by the time I was old enough to remember anything about it.
