Rodney Harrison says Seymour not thrilled with the trade...

And it may make other players on the team think twice before playing hardball with the Pats and appreciate the privalege of playing for this well run perennial contender.

Agreed

That's cool. It's just a pet peeve of mine how some fans feel the need to trash our guys after they leave.

A pet peeve of mine is a player that looks out for his own interest one day while smugly whipping out the "its just business" card, then gets traded because the franchise takes the same "its just business" route and the player huffs and cries about what happened.

Man up, go play in Oakland like you're supposed to Richard. No offense Sey, "its just business"

I wonder how well this board will fare if Nov. rolls around and Wilfork is still not extended?

Hard to say. Maybe the second aspect of the Sey trade is sending a message to Wilfork. We will pay you well enough if you take a fair deal, keep asking for too much and we will see if Tampa Bay or Seattle has an interest.

How long have you been visiting this site? People trash players while they are still here. And if you have been reading regularly, you would know that our defense sucks, we have no pass rush, we cannot stop the run and lots of other stuff. It isn't like people suddenly turn on a player after he leaves unless he acts like a ****. And then they are trashing him because he is acting like a ****, not because he left the team.

No one trashed Givens or Bledsoe, not many people are fond of the way Milloy and Branch left. THe latter were trashed because of the way they left. Even though as it turns out neither had nothing left in the tank and owed their success to the Pats. :D

This is a business. Seymour (with advice from his agent and his lawyer) will respond to the 5-day letter and report when it makes business sense to do so.

Business has little to do with "manning up"

Depends on what "manning up" means in this case. If it means follow the rules of the company/organization you work for (the NFL) even if you don't like it, then actually yes- business in this case has everything to do with "manning up".

I expect Seymour to follow the rules of the NFL. On of those rules prescribes the results if Seymour reports and the result if he doesn't. Certainly, under the CBA, Seymour has the right to sit out.

Absolutely. And if he doesn't report, financial consequences are given. I guess the big two questions now are if he will report and if he doesn't what team is he dealing with?

His services have been traded............ that's part of the game. He's a pro NFL player. It makes "business sense" for him to go apply his services to the ones who own his services. PERIOD. Now perhaps he's working out a new deal, or getting family things in order or whatever, and I'll give him the benefit of doubt that he is, and will show up soon.

But his azz should show up there. No getting around it.

Those are the questions. It is messy if he needs to deal with patriots. I would think that wouldn't be the case unless the trade is voided. It would be messy because he is likely to want a no-franchise clause from Oakland.

rodney also says
Asked if Seymour would report to the Raiders, Harrison said, "I don't know that. Only Richard knows that. But I wouldn't go to Oakland. There's no way in the world I would go to Oakland. The only way I would report is if they promised they wouldn't franchise me after this year."

Just as Samuel did, just as Harrison publically recommended, Seymour can choose not to report. That is one of his options.

Apparently, you don't think that players/workers should have options. Apparently, you think (as some in Oakland) that teams can trade you and you should report the next day in Oakland. After all, many in Oakland and in the national media are reporting that Seymour missed practice today. Guess what, he isn't a raider yet. And, there are ZERO consequences of him not showing up for 5 days after getting a formal letter, which he probably got today if such papers can legally be served on a holiday.

In any case, under the CBA, a player can choose not to report.

I certainly understand that some owners and some fans think that players like Seymour get paid enough that they should go wherever they're told to go and do whatever they are told to do. Thankfully for the players, there is a CBA.

I dont understand the comments left on PFT after the article from some of these people, then I come back here to scroll down and read some opinions of people on this board and it's just as bad.

Bad mouthing Rodney for what he said? What did he say that was so terrible? He said it like it is. Man, people are so hard to please. No one's ever happy with the Borges's and Tomase's of the world, bad mouthing them every chance they get. Those guys are trashy journalists, I understand that. But, here comes a guy like Rodney, who played his ass off and gave many of us years of entertainment, comes out, tells it like it is, and people are upset?

Again, just to make sure we are clear, Im talking about the PFT board as well. Richard was an all-pro for this team, he gets traded, and now it seems that people are ready to hang the man out to dry. "He's fat!" "He's lazy!" "He never bought into the Patriot way!" "He faked injuries!" On and on, and it just keeps getting worse.

Can we all please just stop, look at the big picture, and stop trying to spin it either way to make our cases more legit, and make ourselves feel better? This is a joke. Every time that man was on the field (Seymour) making plays, setting the edge, keeping his mouth shut and just doing his job, no one ever said "Get that fat, pansy ass malcontent off the field and off this team!" Instead, we all cheered him on.

Is it a smart deal for our beloved Pats? Of course it is, is it a good deal for the Raiders? OF COURSE IT IS! Is it a good deal for Richard? Hell no. Just becuz he is unhappy about it, let's not bad mouth the guy or let anyone else bad mouth him either. He played hard for this team (regardless of what speculators and self righteous guys like Hobbs have to say.) Let's just take it for what it is. If BB could pay the guy whatever he wanted and keep him on this team with no cap or player limit, I guarantee you he would.

I know this has been a very long post, and I apologize, and if you've read all the way through it, then thank you very much for your time. Id also like to just end by telling anyone who is trying to emasculate Richard Seymour... over the internet you may sound like a tough guy, but in person, that Man would kick your ass.

Actually, I think this is a terrible deal for the pats and a reasonable one for Seymour if Oakland waives its right to franchise in 2010. Otherwise the deal will be voided and the patriots will be calling up pioli or josh.

If you're going to call people out for wrongly attacking Harrison, you might want to avoid wrongly attacking Hobbs.

How did I wrongly attack Hobbs? I have nothing against Hobbs, but every chance he got, he made sure to remind us all how wonderful and special he really is. I would also like to add that for Hobbs to come out and accuse players of faking injuries without mentioning names and leaving it to the fans to decide for themselves who those people were, was not only a terrible low blow, but very careless. So, what exactly did I say that was wrongly attacking Hobbs?

Best post about the Seymour hoopla so far. Thanks.

Why would I argue with you? If you can't see it and avoid the irony, why shouldn't I enjoy the giggles?

Hmmm.... smells like hypocrisy!

We all should have been cheering him on. There was a sizable contingent on this forum, though, that was calling him fat/lazy/overrated/malcontent even before the trade. I never understood it either- the guy did everything that you could ask of a player and then some, and did it better than anyone else in the league...

I wish we would keep him but I think by holding out and going for more money is the reason for the attacks.
He had a choice, take less money than he could probably get on the open market and a cap friendly deal and I think he could've retired a Patriot. He chose this path. FWIW I always thought he was a hard working player and one of the best on the D even after his surgery.
