Harrison: Seymour's "not thrilled" with deal to Raiders | ProFootballTalk.com

.
"Put yourself in his position," Harrison added. "He's going from a first-class organization to one of the worst in the NFL.

And you look at the move made by [Patriots head coach Bill] Belichick, and you can see him saying, 'I'd rather get rid of a guy before the last year of his contract.' He knows the Raiders will stink so it's a top-10 pick in return for a guy who's gonna be 30. You know what? That's the business..

I've said it many times and I will say it again. I will miss Seymour this year as will the defense. BB must have a ton of confidence in Brace and Pryor to let this happen. However, it was between him and Wilfork getting to stay with the team next year. Wilfork is younger and Seymour was only able to do his thing BECAUSE Wilfork was doing his job on the D-Line. Wilfork is the anchor and he will get the new contract. We could have kept Seymour this year, took our chances, and lost him for no compensation next year. Or, we could have did what we did and got paid handsomely for it. In our case, we did the latter. If BB AND Rodney think it's a smart move, that's good enough for me.

Now, now.... don't forget the other important part, since we were all assured that Rodney was going to be honest and tell it like it is:

"It's a great deal for the Raiders," he said. "Combine Richard with Tommy Kelly on the defensive line, you have [Nnamdi] Asomugha in the secondary, there's some talent there and you've brought in a player who knows how to win and be a professional.

But clearly Rodney knows as well as anyone that Seymour's a fat malcontent who's always injured and way past his prime, so why would he say that?

I love Big Sey as much as anyone. Certainly appreciate everything he's done for the team, but after that BS he pulled in 2005, while all the while smugly claiming "it's just business", I don't have much sympathy at this point.

It's just business Rich, now go man up and take your place on that cesspool of an NFL team. You've been traded, get over it.

Seymour's ticked off because he figured he'd play hard this year then hit free agency and land on a good team while they backed up the brinks truck for him. But it's hasn't worked out that way and now he's pouting about it.

If I had a buck for every time he has said "it's just business" I'd be able to afford my own football team. It sure seems (at least to me) that he had no intention of sticking around after this season, so it's a variation of "Careful of what you wish for...".

I hope Seymour is in Oakland for 8 - 10 years :D

And it may make other players on the team think twice before playing hardball with the Pats and appreciate the privalege of playing for this well run perennial contender.

Rodney Harrison said:
sked if Seymour would report to the Raiders, Harrison said, "I don't know that. Only Richard knows that. But I wouldn't go to Oakland. There's no way in the world I would go to Oakland. The only way I would report is if they promised they wouldn't franchise me after this year."

Wow. Way to give him some bad advice, Rodney!

I hope he gets at least $25 mil a year, $75 mil guaranteed, too. Load it up, Big Al!

Maybe this was BB making an example of what happens to you when you fake injury and get called out by the great (formerly) inside reporter, EHIII.

(EDIT: I have no proof he was actually faking injury! I was just kidding. :D:D:D:D )

Do you have some proof that Seymour was faking injury or just applying the allegation now that Big Sey's been traded?

That would be great, give him tons of cash crazy Al. Its the only thing he cares about.

Seymour has been a wonderful servant of the Patriots, but given the choice between extending him or Wilfork, I'm afraid it's a no brainer. Big Vince, come on down.

Yeah I have proof. Big Sey and I play cards every Tuesday night. He tells me everything about the team, and....

I guess when I used the line about EHIII I assumed people would sense the sarcasm... I guess not. I should have put a ":D" or a just kidding.. which I was.

:D

That's cool. It's just a pet peeve of mine how some fans feel the need to trash our guys after they leave.

Please post where Wilfork signed an extension. If the team is choosing between the two for the next offseason, they could have just had Seymour play out his contract. BTW, that is what they have done with Green, who just BTW uses $5.4M of cap sapce this year. We certainly could have kept Seymour and dumped him after season.

No need to be a smart arse. I said given the choice between extending the two, I'd rather extend Wilfork than Seymour.

I apologize.

I do agree with the choice.
