How coach Tom Cable addressed the Richard Seymour trade following practice:

Cable: Real quickly about the Richard Seymour issue. We have attempted to make a deal. There are some issues still between him and the Patriots that are being worked out. Hoping that will be resolved as quickly as possible. We know that the player wants to be here, but we have no control really over those issues. That’s really all I’m going to talk about it for now.

Q: Can you tell us how you know he wants to be here? Have you spoken with him?

Cable: I have talked to him.

Q: So he said he wants to be here?

Cable: Yes.

Q: Is there a day you have to have him by to play in the opener?

Cable: As soon as possible. That’s really the only way to answer that right

According to the AP via Mike Reiss' twitter, the Pats are unaware of an issues on their end of holding up the trade.

RT @bydavidwhite Patriots official says he's unaware of any difficulties surrounding the trade, per AP. Getting very interesting.

Tom Cable is a great, capable leader of men. I take him (and all NFL head coaches) at their word.

Maybe the Pats are fitting Seymour with an iron jaw just in case Cable gets mad at him and decides to haul off at him.

BTW, didn't see the other thread. Mods, you can combine with the other thread.

Cable & the Raiders are such a joke that BB can't resist doing business with them.

Me too.....cause he'll punch me out if I don't

Re: Tom Cable says that the Pats are holding up the trade and Seymour wants to be Rai

The Raiders are the ass clowns of the NFL....

Re: Tom Cable says that the Pats are holding up the trade and Seymour wants to be Rai

What issue could there be between the Pats and Seymour?? What is he waiting for?? I mean really...that is totally ridiculous..THERE is nothing the Pats can do at all.... They can't change his contract...or change any of the terms...if they promised him something..THAT can not be the same of a new team...can it?? Pure baloney..if he wanted to be in Oakland..he would have gone..maybe he wishes to say goodbyes to the front Office..

Tom Cable's word is as good as gold...ask his assistant coach whose jaw he broke and then denied the whole thing.

It'll be worth the monetary equivalent during the civil trial.

Re: Tom Cable says that the Pats are holding up the trade and Seymour wants to be Rai

The NFL Network just reported that the Patriots have no idea what Cable is talking about.....hilarious!!!

Re: Tom Cable says that the Pats are holding up the trade and Seymour wants to be Rai

Mike Lombardi on the NFLN,just reported that the pata are in compiance with the trade terms and don't know what the h-ll Crable is talking about.

He also said that Oakland offered a 2 and 5 in 2010,but BB declined for the #1 in 2011

Re: Tom Cable says that the Pats are holding up the trade and Seymour wants to be Rai

Seymour doesn't want to be a Raider, he won't show up. Mabe Cable is reffering to the 5 day letter.

Or

Seymour Started crying on his knees to Bill to take him back and would do anything not to go to the Raiders.

Or maybe Cable has come down with "Al Davis" disease and isn't sure what's going on...

Re: Tom Cable says that the Pats are holding up the trade and Seymour wants to be Rai

So Cable claims to have talked to Sey, and there are issues still to be dealt with in Pat land. Hmm.

Is big Sey due any type of bonus that he has not received, doubt it?

Maybe he needs his stuff from his locker and he is locked out of the building, nah.

???????

Re: Tom Cable says that the Pats are holding up the trade and Seymour wants to be Rai

Perhaps Richard stopped
to get his hair ready
for the team

Re: Tom Cable says that the Pats are holding up the trade and Seymour wants to be Rai

Quick search turned up this precedent:

Indy.com | Post: Bills DT McCargo fails Colts physical, trade void | Indianapolis, Indiana

That article makes it seem like the requirements of passing a physical depend on what is specifically outlined in the trade itself (so not a CBA issue)- which means that it is possible that this requirement wouldn't have been included.

That said, I'd be willing to bet that it's a standard clause in all trades, as it prevents teams from screwing someone over by unloading players with undisclosed injuries. If that's the case, then the trade is likely contingent on Seymour taking (and passing) a physical.

It's just a way to cover up the fact that Seymour really does not want to be there. I have to say that I feel for the guy. I wonder why Denver wasn't calling...

LOL, maybe Seymour is making calls to other teams begging them to make a trade for him with Oakland.

He will show, he does not have a choice does he.

This 2 and a 5 in 2010 is interesting.Mike Lombardi used to be in the Raiders FO,so he knows what he's talking about.

Mike May**** said,long-term,this ia a steal for NE,especially if there's a rookie salary cap in 2011.

May**** also said when he saw the Pats in camp, thar Ron brace looked really good and can play NT,as well as Seymour's spot in a 3-4.
