Rumor: Seymour Trade Not A Done Deal?

Just one thought...
There is NO way to permanently burn the bridges, so long as both parties are alive. Milton Berle and his wife were married and divorced--to each other--seven times. Under the right circumstances, anyone who has departed the Patriots and can still play might return.

I do not think, however, that there is any problem with the Seymour trade. He knew it was coming. He's not about to throw a year's worth of paychecks away or harm his chances of being a free agent at the age of 31. He will be playing for Oakland, and he will be doing his best to prove the Patriots made a mistake.

If Seymour doesnt report to the Raiders do we still get the first rounder?

No. Seymour actually has to step foot onto the Raiders facility for him to be official property of the Oakland Raiders. If he doesn't report, both team can either work something out ala Jake Plummer to Buccaneers, Terrell Owens to the Ravens-Eagles or rescind the deal completely. I'm pretty sure this deal is going to go dead.

If the Pats are slated to get Oakland's 2011 1st-rounder, why would they settle for KC's 2010 2nd-rounder? I would hope there's more to that deal, or else it's not worth it.

Personally, I'd rather he go to KC. I'm already rooting for them due to Pioli, Cassel, and Vrabel, and I spend time on their board. If they have Seymour--and they could desperately use him--that would be sweet.

Same here. As a Seymour fan who has sorta adopted the chiefs as my distant #2 team now, I'd love to see him playing for them.

I know the Patriots org. has confirmed it, but hasn't there yet to be an official statement from the Raiders saying so?

Probably there has been.....I just haven't heard of it yet.

The league confirmed it. For them to do that, notification has to be sent by both teams..

Please show me in the CBA where it says that..

I'm still waiting for someone like Schefter or Reiss to come with some info....until then it's all speculation for me.

There are many things that aren't explicitly spelled out in the CBA. The five day letter Florio references doesn't appear to be in there, for example.

If the Raiders are able to pull out the Patriots may "settle" for that. I prefer the Raider deal but a (likely) top half #2 in the next draft should be a nice player too.

the pats need to throw the 5-day letter at him........at the end of the day, if he winds up back at this spot at the same time next year, it is all his own doing............and in the grander scheme of things, it needs to continue to be made clear that he is under contract and that there are repercussions for not adhering to the terms of the contract......

now I guess we all know why he was traded in the first place........I have rapidly soured on seymour as a person

Man, you really hate it when I beat you to the punch, don't you? Try thinking back to prior transactions like Plummer and Owens. Until Seymour actually steps foot in Oaklands' facility, he's still the Pats problem. Players usually accept the trades because they want to get paid. Plummer decided to retire so the Bucs and Broncos worked out something else. Owens flat out refused to play for the Ravens so they were forced to trade him elsewhere and the 9ers received less compensation for him. If Seymour continues to put his foot down, the trade will either be rescinded or the Pats will get less than a 1st round pick for him.

The Pats don't want to go that route because everybody loses. The Raiders won't want to deal with that s*** and the rescind the trade.

sure everybody loses, but every single time a player even apparently tries to dictate outside of his contractual obligations, another figures they will do the same.......there are 52 other players who are a part of this.......

obviously, the pats can afford to wait until 2011 for the returns on this deal, so their losses are only conceptual right now.....

the only one who really loses in that scenario is seymour........he's under contract.....he needs to honor that contract, or he can honor the same contract next year...........he is playing the only card he has and the pats hold every single other one........

If Seymour puts his foot down, he won't be a "Raider" for long. However, most athletes fold and report because they want the money.

sure, but its the pats who are prepared to not yield a return on this trade until 2011.........they can outwait seymour

sure seymour can refuse to report, but the repercussions are his fault

I really hope this isn't true.

If Seymour sits I doubt we get a #1. Until he reports, we have gotten nothing for the loss of his services.
