Just wondering...

Any news on that front? (Or did that ship sail with him signing elsewhere and all of a sudden I look like a total idiot?)

It was what I was expecting to happen. give a few days for the dust to settle and the first guy that goes on IR, Carter comes in.

I certainly hope so. At this point, he's better than what we're likely going to have to throw together at the position to replace Seymour. As I said in another thread, Belichick has a plan. I highly doubt he trades Seymour if he wasn't confident about at least patching the hole left behind by his trade. Whether he's confident in the committee we have to replace him currently on the roster or he's planning on signing Carter, I don't know. As of right now, I hope it's the latter. But I have been proven wrong by this team before so...

Negotiations are still happening. Hopefully, Seymour leaving might help the team to realize that Carter is more valuable than before. Hopefully, Seymour leaving will help Carter see that he will have a major role in the defense.

So I tried looking this guy up to see who he is why you guys seem ok with signing him when you usually don't like trash-heap guys and such.

Why is he still a free agent? By choice or something else? Is he a wash-up or just looking for $$$?

Hook a brotha up?

He's pretty long in the tooth. That would be my guess for why he's still a free agent. But I think he can still be productive. Will he be Seymour? Absolutely not. But he can somewhat fill the void.

Earlier in the offseason, many were interested in him as an insurance policy just in case Ty Warren's injury was worse than expected.

Last I read he was leaning towards retirement. Now, that may be an agent ploy to soak the Lions for dough....but I don't see the Pats getting into that game.

I don't want Kevin Carter to have a major role in this defense. Hell, I don't want him on this team. He'd be one of the oldest players in the league. And he isn't that good anymore.

Yah, but him and Galloway can take the guys out for dinner Thursday's using the senior's discount. Not ALL bad...

Golden Corral does have an excellent buffet.

"No problem, no problem, no problem, PROBLEM!". God I hate that commercial.

What would we have done if Sey went down with injury?..... or shall I say what have we done? Green has always stepped in admirably and we're pretty deep on the front right now. I'm confident we have enough to {somewhat} make up his loss. Provided Warren and Wilfork stay................ no, I don't even want to think it.

Green, in his last year, is finally getting some props! I would remind you all that many here were ready to cut or trade Green a few short weeks ago. After all, he has publicly stated that he wants to leave after this year. That, as we certainly know, is grounds for being cut or traded.

Jason La Canforna was saying on Friday that the Patriots and Bears were the two teams trying the most to get Carter to come back. This contradicted SI.com that said that Carter had passed on the Patriots and that it was the Lions and another team.

He's only 35. And he was still plenty good for Tampa last year and Miami the year before. He's certainly not an every down DE..

Vonnie Holliday would've looked pretty good here too, but Skippy beat Bill to him a couple of days ago.

Something is going to happen either way - I think(?). We are short 1 front-7 defender (or 2, if Alexander isn't counted).

So, you're thinking run downs only? His age does worry me. I understand he has held up well over time, but sooner or later, he's gonna hit that wall. I'd hate to sign him, and then watch a train wreck.

If the Pats are still pursuing him, its because they are of the honest belief he can come in and still be productive.

I haven't looked over the entirety of the cuts.. I was saving that for my free time on Monday after lunch with the in-laws..

That's not unreasonable. He wasn't very good last year. Additionally, there are guys out there, and I believe Green's one of them, who is good in spots but not so great when exposed to long periods of time. Those thinking we can just pencil Green in and expect his B-version of Seymour for 16 games and the lost-season might be hoping for more than #97 can deliver.
