Give me your predictions on what the front four's going to look like on run stopping and passing downs now that Seymour's gone...

I'm going to go out on a limb:

DE: Burgess
DT: Wilfork
DT: Warren
DE: Green

Warren was a DT in college and I think he would be more effective inside than outside in a 4-3 scheme.

on passing downs sure....on running downs

DE: warren
DT: wilfork
DT: brace
DE: the best guy to play who can play the run...

I had the same thought as you with Warren moving in next to Wilfork, it's nice having so much flexibility with defensive players.

My short answer is that we'll see when the roster is complete. I hope that we will still add two front seven players.

I'll go with a complete platoon:

Warren-Wilfork-Brace-Green on 1st down

Burgess-Wright-Pryor-TBC on passing downs.

Possibly one of the DTs will be inactive and Warren or Green can move inside on passing downs. The wild card for me is Thomas, who is, in the minds of many, their best pass rusher, but was not used in that capacity in pre-season. Not sure if BB was just saving him - if so, he can certainly platoon into one of the edge rusher positions.

I'm guessing.

Warren, Wilfork, Brace, and Green.

This looks spot on to me.

i don't care how they look they can be ugly as they like i just want them to play wel.

My base front 4:

Warren-Wilfork-Brace-Burgess

But I expect to see lots of different looks, with Brace, Pryor, Wright and Warren all getting time both inside and out, and Green, Burgess, Thomas, TBC and Ninkovich all getting time at 4-3 DE as well.

I think Pryor is going to get the nod over Brace... He's my binky.

I love Pryor. I think he's got a lot of potential, is a big upgrade over LeKevin Smith, and will actually earn significant playing time and possibly a spot on the 45 man roster sometime this season. But I don't see him getting the nod over Brace as a starting DT. Third DT in a 3 man rotation, yes. 2nd DT with Brace moving outside to DE, yes. But getting the nod over Brace, no ... I don't see that. JMHO.

Why do people have Burgess playing on the weak side? He has always played strong side, and did through the preseason.

The Pats have two 4-3 DEs in Burgess and Jarvis Green (who will play on the weakside). Those guys should see some serious action this year. Warren is too slow to be an every down 4-3 DE. Inside you'll see a mix of Wilfork, Warren, Brace, and Pryor.

On passing downs, they'll switch to a 4/2 nickel. I assume Green will come off the field, and Thomas will play on the line in a 3 point stance, like he has been for years. From this position he can rush or drop back.

Burgess will not be playing 1st down imo. He has never been a run stopper in his career so putting him in that situation will be detrimental. It will most likely look like this: Warren-Wilfork-Brace-Green. Passing downs bring in Burgess and TBC at the ends (if they don't keep Green in there for 3 downs) and Wright and Pryor in the middle.

he said passing downs...definite passing down im going with

DE-Burgess/adalius
DT-Mike Wright/Jarvis Green
DT-Myron Pryor
DE-Tully Banta Cain/adalius thomas

Wilfork and Brace on a passing down only to draw a double team and free up a safety or lb blitzing...

WE HAVE SCAAAAARRY VERSATILITY! Run stoppers, pass rushers, and 3-4, 4-3, nickel, and dime greatness! And we obviously have faith in BB and Pees to devise a scary pressure scheme on passing downs.

Sounds like a bunch of over-thinking to me. On 3rd-and-5+, the Pats will be in the nickel or dime. Mayo doesn't come off the field. Guyton's speed puts him on the field as well. AD is the best pass rusher. Jarvis specializes in these situations. They didn't get Burgess to sit on the bench. That leaves one spot left for the nickel and zero for the dime.

As for running downs, except for goal line and 4th-and-1 there are are no such things anymore. For short yardage situations, you have Wilfork and Brace in the middle and surround them with whoever doesn't get stuck in their gravitational pull.

These are easy. It is the other situations where the games get fun. You may see 4 linemen. Or 3. Or 2, 5, 1 or even 0. As an offense, how do you prepare for that? You make your best guess and hope your guess is right. Even then, what you see in the 2nd half may be completely different.

Belichick has the flexibility to render opposing offensive gameplans moot. Makes no sense to gameplan against a 3-4 and then not see it on Sunday. You don't have enough time in the week to put in contingencies for multiple schemes.

If we see the Pats play a standard 4-3 or 3-4 base the majority of the season, I will be surprised...and disappointed.

I agree that it is downright scary to have Brace, Banta-Cain and Pryor instead of Seymour, Bruschi and Vrabel.

I'm going with these four to start with and Bugess coming in on passing downs

Warren

Wilfork

Brace

Green

I think Pryor has out played Brace this preseason. But I wonder how both will be hold up versus the run? They will need to keep O line guys off of Mayo.

Of last year???? not so much.

I thyink the ability to stunt will be pretty good. Plus it's a fairly new look and will be easy to disguise schemes this years. Big Sey hurt, but to pick up a 1st for him is to good to pass up, plus if we extend Vince...... It's even better.
