The practice of using quotes by other members is now no longer permitted. It's gone on long enough, and it's obviously not good for the community. If you have one in your signature please take a moment and remove it.

Great call. Ian does an amazing job with this site, to keep it from becoming a jets insider monstrosity. I know I've been guilty in the past of getting too heated and being too snarky and the general insinuation of quotes as signature plays into that culture. Hope everyone will adhere, and fast. Thanks for keeping us on the straight and narrow, Ian.

Good move! It was a very childish practice anyway.

Excellent... I couldn't agree more... so I'll go one step further and take out my quote of someone else quoting someone else!

This is a forum-wide thing with everyone Joe - so anyone who doesn't remove it on their own will have it manually removed :beatingcoming:

Agreed. Lame, childish and a backhanded personel attack. I've thought that for awhile.

Personal sig's ok though???

Excellent... mine was only a protest of such a childish practice of holding a statement over the head of others in the first place, so I'm glad to see it at an end.

Agreed. I'm not pointing any fingers at anyone individually, so I'm hoping everyone just removes them and then we can move onto what will hopefully be a fun season here.

I dunno... I have never had one, nor did I intend to get one... but I always laughed at the funny ones. It is, after all, mostly for humor. We're all adults here - probably - and we should just "suck it up". Oh well, it is what it is.

Absolutely - this is just preventing people here from using quotes they didn't like by other members from the forum in their signatures.

Another typically wise and just decision.

Thanks, Ian.

Great move!

I joined the board for the updates, thoughts, and valuable insights from many wonderful board contributors.

The board's better off without personal attacks, name calling and childish behaviors. This resets the bar. Great move! Thank you Ian.

Good!!! I did not think they added anything but animosity...and while I do not have one at all..it's a good practice..Thanks!!

Great call, Ian!

I never bothered you with a PM about it since I figured free speech is free speech and I could just ignore it, but I did think it was, as you put it, against the spirit of community.

Also, made me nervous that some day I'd say something dumb/intemperate late at night or because I was pissed off or had had a couple of ****tails and then have to see it reproduced ad infinitum.

(Heh, heh. Interesting the "pissed off" made it through the screen but ****tails got nailed.)

Ian, I love that smiley...

This is a good policy. On another board I read, the posters often quote each other in their siggie lines, but it's out of admiration for a particularly witty line. I didn't get the feeling that was the case here....:disagreement:

Timely move. I thought people were at best childish and at worst internet bullies for doing stuff like this.
