Obviously, Belichick is looking at the more than 500 players cut in the last 24 hours and seeing where the team cut be upgraded. I see at the least the following positions as potential upgrades.

QB - We only have 2
OG/C - I think that we might secure a better backup center than Connolly.
FB - We don't have one.
DL/LB - While this is always a possibility, but I think Belichick is all set.
ST - This is always a possibility.

======================================================================================================
I would like us to sign a QB, a C/G, and a STer in place of Slater, Connolly and Green-Ellis. I think that we have a very, very strong 50.
======================================================================================================

QB (2): Brady, Hoyer
RB (5): Maroney, F. Taylor, Morris, Faulk, Green-Ellis
WR (6): Moss, Welker, Galloway, Aiken, Edelman, Lewis
TE (3): Watson, Baker, Matthews
OL (9): Light, Mankins, Koppen, Neal, Kaczur, Connolly, Ohrnberger, Vollmer, Wendell

DL (7):Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Brace, Pryor, Green, Wright
DE/OLB (3) : Burgess, Banta-Cain, Ninkovich
LB (5): Alexander, Guyton, Mayo, Thomas, Woods
S (5): Meriweather, Sanders, Chung, McGowan, Slater
CB (5): Bodden, Butler, Springs, Wheatley, Wilhite

ST (3): Gostkowski, Hanson, Ingram

PUP: Tate

IR: Bussey, McKenzie, C. Taylor, Crable

What is your problem with BJGE?

What is your problem with BJGE?

He obviously thinks he's a bum.....
I disagree, I think he's a player, not a star, but a solid contributor.

Green-Ellis is our 5th string halfback. No team needs a 5th string halfback.

I do think that Green-Ellis is on the team for a reason. If Game One were tomorrow, given all the nicks and bruises, Green-Ellis would be active and would play on a couple of the special teams units. There are better players available who could meet this need. For example, we could re-sign Spann.

I think we're thin at LB.

I'd like to see another OT as well, personally. I'd go with a QB and an OT in place of Connolly and BJGE. If Slater's going to be healthy soon, might as well keep him around until he's good to go. If not, then I agree that IRing him and replacing him on ST is a good call (too bad Nunn won't clear waivers).

I doubt it. At this point, nobody on the team is a bum. It's just a matter of where our needs are, and he feels that we have more pressing needs than a #5 HB. I'm inclined to agree, but who knows what'll happen.

After watching him slam that elbow at least 3 times, I'd be surprised if Slater is ready anytime soon...considering they haven't IR'd him, I must either be wrong, or they are hoping HARD.

Maybe BJGE is just a 5th, but I feel he is a better player than that given the opportunity...
He just knows how to get it done, maybe not the prettiest, but who really GAS?

Or they just don't know yet. Haven't had very long to do a proper evaluation, and he's valuable enough on ST that I'm sure they don't want to IR him without being sure that he's out for a good while.

We are carrying a fairly normal number of linebackers. I think that the depth is as good as last year.

I don't see anyone out there that would be an upgrade, but Belichick could surprise us with a pickup.

DE/OLB - Burgess, Banta-Cain, Ninkovich
OLB - Thomas, Woods
ILB - Mayo, Guyton, Alexander

I just wanna know how many of these 30something yr old RBs are gonna be back with us next year. Heck, is Maroney gonna still be here? The firm may be the only of our current 5 backs even with this club next year.

Sure, and maybe all the wide receivers will be gone too.

I think it depends a lot on how people feel about Alexander as a backup ILB. I'm fine with him, and think he's been unfairly scapegoated for the team-wide collapse in 2006, but a lot of people think he sucks. Much like Woods has been proving doubters wrong ever since he got placed in the rotation, though, I could see Alexander doing the same.

I'm missing the logic in the theory that one of the core STers from the pre-season only made the roster as a placeholder.

Seeing you did not pick him to make the roster I can understand your
minimizing his role.
Obviously BB thinks differently than you do about BJGE.
What make you think he is behind old man Morris and dancing Maroney?
The kid carried three guys into the end zone. Does great the more he
touches the ball.
BTW, I never saw BB smile at Maroney the way he smiled at BJGE the other
night. This kid has BB's heart and Tom's also if you didn't notice.
I have little doubt that if given a shot he'll do some great things with
the starters blocking for him. 5th string

Well that settles it. If Belichick smiled at him, he must be in the clear.

As for why he's behind Maroney and Morris, there's a whole thread dedicated to that. He might jump ahead of Morris due to injury, but there's an absolute chasm of talent and production between Maroney and BJGE. I'm sure you'll disagree, since you base your decisions on who you think Belichick smiles at the most, but it is what it is.

Let's be clear. I would have absolutely no problem with Green-Ellis being on the roster with either Morris or Maroney cut. The, green-Ellis would ahve a role. Competition I understand. I would understand Green-Ellis being better and more valuable than Maroney or Morris, and him beating one of them out for a roster spot. Belichick did not make that choice. He kept Green-Ellis for some role that I do not understand. If it is for special teams, I'd rather have Spann.

These 2 players, Maroney and the Firm, on a much lesser level, can be compared to Barry and Emmitt. One dances and is always looking to break a play. The other much more of a grinder, always gaining positive yardage and far less likely to break a big play. Two different backs that I feel could compliment one another nicely. The committee just has so many members right now, the Firm just isnt likely to really get all that much action.

But this an big assumption on your part. You assume it was BJGE that was
the 5th back? Maybe it's Maroney and BB is just looking for a way to deal
him. BJGE was more productive than Maroney last year when running
was more difficult without TB around.

As I posted in an earlier thread, I don't yet see Slater's injury as being that awful. If he didn't tear any muscles or ligaments, it's entire.y possible for him to be back in about 3 weeks or so. That would be GREAT!

However, I don't see what everyone is so worried about with the current roster. So we carry 2 QB's. So what. So we have 5 RD's. So what? BB likes to have certain players for certain roles and I am certain he couldn't have kept 5 RB's if he didn't see a use for them down the pike. This team has been an RB by Committee team for many years now. We've always needed every one that we could get our hands on.

I think that BJGE is here for the long haul.
