I think we trade RB/TE to Philly for AJ Feeley and pick

All speculation here, but hear me out.

We have great depth in the running back position as well as at tight end. Keeping an extra RB or TE would not make sense especially since we need a backup QB. So I think rather than sending a TE and a pick to Philly for AJ Feeley, we are going to send a TE and RB and get Feeley and a pick in return.

We'll find out soon enough. Thoughts?

At the end of the first quarter last night, I'd have said yes. After the rest of the game, I think their interest in Feeley has probably waned a bit.

They might still shop a TE or two around. Not a back, though. Taylor is old, Morris is not young and has injury history, Faulk is a change-of-pace pass-catcher, Maroney is the lead back and still yet to prove himself, and BJGE wouldn't garner much. I think they probably keep all five of them.

The more I think about it, the more I think he's going with just Brady and Hoyer, adding someone's waiver-wire cut to the PS as the emergency QB, knowing all the while he's got Edelman around as well, and MAYBE after a week or two adding a vet off his living room couch like a Huard (who would then not have a guaranteed salary).

Of course, Belichick will probably trade for Tarvaris Jackson tomorrow. Just to show us that, even after almost a decade, we have no idea what he's thinking.

If we are going to trade a RB, how about the Bears?

Chicago Bears RB Kevin Jones is out for the tear with a torn ligament in his left ankle. Chicago now has a depth issue after starting RB Matt Forte; Garrett Wolfe and (the other) Adrian Peterson are Forte's backups.

Is there any chance that the Pats could trade one of their running backs to Chicago rather than just cut him? Or do you think the Bears will just wait for roster cuts and try to sign whomever becomes available then?

I'm just thinking it would nice to get something, anything, for a player that is just going to be cut. And if the Pats decide to trade for Feeley (or another QB), having an extra draft pick available would be helpful.

i doubt BB is going to trade for a backup QB without knowing if the person is going to fit his system or not. its one think to trade for LB's and another for a backup QB who has played in multiple systems. AJ feely has been a good backup in PHL and MIA. doesnt mean he can pick up and work in the pats system.

Why should we hear you out??? There have been about 20 some on threads on the same topic.

1) Philly doesn't need another RB. They need a TE.
2) Why should the Pats TRADE for Feeley when they can sign him as a free agent after he's cut
3) Feeley isn't going to be cut or traded, more than likely, before Vick is eligible to return.

So because Hoyer completed some passes against a bunch of scrubs that will be out of the league this time tomorrow, you think Belichick is now comfortable with him being the top backup? I dunno what he's planning on doing at QB, but I can just about guarantee that his outlook didn't pull a 180 between the first quarter and the end of the game last night. Whatever he decides, he put quite a bit more thought into it than that.

I highly doubt that we woud trade both Smith and Maroney for Feely. Feely is not worth that much, just ask the Dolphins who traded a 2nd rounder for him. I think after that trade his stock went way down when he proved to be what he is, a career backup. I would have no problem with trading Smith straight up for him though because he has proven that he can mind the store for a couple of games. The thing about Feely though is that he's a West Coast quarterback and it would probably take him about 6 weeks to get acclimated with our system and you'd be doing it during the regular season where he would only get a few snaps a week.

Well, I don't think the Bears will go for BJGE, for the same reason why I don't think the Pats will keep him: because he's replacement level. Why trade for someone when you can get a player of the same caliber for free? So if we're going to trade a RB to the Bears, we're probably trading Maroney. Considering that they already mortgaged away their draft for Cutler, I don't see them being able and willing to put together a package that would be worth what Maroney will be worth to the Pats in 2009.

Hoyer completed some passes against the 1st team defense as well. And I am pretty certain the Giants 1st team defense played well into the 2nd quarter.

Considering that it was the Pats 2nd string offensive line the entire time, I have to say that I am impressed with the way Hoyer pulled them together and got the team going in the right direction. If Hoyer hadn't gotten things going, we'd have seen Walter in the 2nd half, in all honesty.

Kevin Jones was not their starter. He was their back-up. And, since they have Wolfe and the other Adrian Peterson, I don't see them needing to trade for someone. BJGE isn't better than Wolfe or Peterson.

I was very impressed with Hoyer too. All I'm saying is that I severely doubt Belichick had him penciled in as the #3, then, between the end of the first quarter and the end of the game, decided "you know what? **** it, this kid's good enough to be our only backup."

And in the first quarter, Hoyer took 2 sacks and completed one pass of over 4 yards. It's exaggerating more than a little to say that he looked good against the first team, although I don't know why anyone would expect him to considering that he was surrounded by backups.

Too bad we couldn't improve over you and DW by trading you two... Like Yesterday, imho.

People have this irrational idea that Maroney dances because of the mediots out there. People don't bother to go and look at the plays where he is supposedly "dancing" to figure out what is going on.. They just see it and go.. "OH LOOK, Maroney's dancing again." Of course, when this happens, the intelligent fans look and see the following:
1) A defender in the backfield
2) No hole when Maroney gets to the line
3) a defender entering the hole when Maroney gets to the line.

Maroney's job is to get positive yardage. And he does very good job of that. He's not and never has been a "power runner" in the mold of Dillon who just drops his shoulder and runs through people. That has NEVER EVER been Maroney's game. Maroney is a cut back runner. Always has been. Yes, he can run with power, but he's best utilized as a one cut runner. But its hard to be a one cut runner when you get to the line and there are NO HOLES for you to cut to..

Actually, NFL.COM says that we cut six including walter. The sixth was Steve Williams, whom they didn't have a link for.
