Vick news overshadows loss to Jets | Philadelphia Inquirer | 09/04/2009
If general manager Tom Heckert has any unused minutes on his cell phone, he will exhaust them in the next 24 hours as the Eagles attempt to trade veteran A.J. Feeley, leaving Donovan McNabb, Kevin Kolb and Vick as the team's three quarterbacks.

It wouldn't be surprising either if Feeley, who played just one series last night, was being offered in a package with wide receiver Reggie Brown, a former starter who was still playing in the fourth quarter last night.

An Eagles source said recently that the team would like to add another tight end to the roster, and New England is interested in moving Alex Smith, a former third-round pick by Tampa Bay who was traded to the Patriots during the off-season.

The source indicated that the Eagles were still looking for help at other positions, too. Safety and linebacker figure to be on that list.

I could see Smmith going if we can find a sucker. He was less than impressive this preseason and I doubt BB wants to pay him $1.5M. But he very likely wants a pick for him if possible and not Feeley. Otherwise I see him cut if we go RB over TE.

I still think Belichick's ultimate plan last night was pit Hoyer and Walter against each other for the #3 spot. With Vick only missing two games and playing fairly well, Feeley becomes expendable. The Pats have what the Eagles need in a TE. It seems the most logical trade to happen.

Granted, I am not thrilled about the trade since I don't know if Feeley would fit into the Pats' system.

OTOH from what I could see in the last 2 games he played against the Pats, he certainly fits our defensive system well. :D

No kidding. BB should hire him as a "defensive assistant" so he can tell him where the holes are in the pass D. LOL.

I have no idea if Feeley is a good fit or not. Hes had a nice career as a backup and been productive. Time will tell.

The Saints lost there TE last night, and it looks bad. It puts them donw to only a helathy Shockey at TE. SO that might be another landing spot for one of the Pats TEs.

Saints TE Miller leaves game hurt

Hopefully between the Iggles and the Aint's the Pats can recoop that 5th rd pick.

I think last night smith did some disservice to this plan
As a receiving tightend
1)Dropped catches thrown to between the numbers
2)One even jumped off his pads and landed near a defender who was not paying attention.

As a blocker.
1)In 2 TE set on the goal line and on tackle runs he let the LB in without even blocking him.
2)No 71 was in the backfeild a bunch chasing ellis in the back field and alex was standing around....dvr and rewinding it looked even worse.
3)IN 3 TE set where Aiken was the 3rd guy him and watson were sealing the edge and alex again was busy chasing his guy in the back field.the 2 yrd ellis play where the watson/aiken cleared the line and a LB went through Alex and jumped on his back.

From what i have seen watson will have more value then smith for sure.

If the back-up quarterback has to come in at any point during the season, I would feel a lot more comfortable with Feeley coming in than Andrew Walter. Smith hasn't really impressed much during the preseason so I'm hoping that the Pats can pull the trigger and either get the pick that they invested in Smith back or get Feeley. As I said in another thread, if Feeley is playing for us than logically that means that he can't be on another team to carve up our defense.
