vollmer played well but was flagged for holding chung looked really bad in pass coverage on slot recievers but was around the ball alot making tackles brace i think i saw him a few times collapsing the pocket really well and butler i think he was in one play and it was an overthrow to his man

Vollmer - Good, a few mistakes but he's got a lot of ability
Chung - Awful
Brace - Good push up the middle
Butler - Did he play?? Didn't notice him

^ that. I didn't notice Butler at all, but I liked what I saw from Vollmer and Brace, and Chung was really, really bad in coverage.

Chung wasnt as bad as he looked, if that makes any sense

Vollmer looked good.

Chung didn't look good in coverage but was alright in his other roles.

Brace looked good. I was actually impressed with the young D-linemen in general. They were good against the run and like others have said, I saw some decent push up the middle.

Butler did play, but I really didn't focus on him.

Chung got burned badly in coverage a few times, but looked better later in the game. Definitely a physical safety. Made a lot of tackles.

Brace was in on a few tackles and held the point of attack well. Good showing overall at a first glance.

Butler played, although mostly in passing situations. The fact that you didn't notice him shows what a good job he did. He was locked-up tight on his man, a big step up from Rogers and Love.

Did Wheatley play? I didn't get to a TV until it was 21-7.

In the beginning of the game I think BB left the DBs out there all by themselves to see how they handle man-to-man coverage without any help. Chung did not look good, but neither did any of the other backs that were out there at the time.

Vollmer looked good at left tackle against the Giants starters.

Brace held his ground but didn't do anything spectacular, a few times he pushed the center back into the QB.

BB was just making Chung face his demons. It's the weakest part of his game and it's good to get game reps (that don't count) as a way to give you valuable experience (and tape) from which to improve on. BB would not be leaving Chung on an island covering the slot 1on1 in a game that mattered.

Part of the process, lets not create the "Chung sucks in coverage" chorus quite yet. We knew that. It was his listed weakness prior to the draft.

Rodney Harrison was one of the greatest safeties ever, but he was bad at one on one coverage against quick slot receivers. Almost all safeties not named Ed Reed are.

Chung is a safety, not a corner even though BB played him at corner intentionally. We'll be fine in real games.

I think it was good wake-up game for Chung as Gints exposed and abused him big way at pass coverage. I guess better to find that out in pre-season game than regular season. One positive is he sure can wrap up guys in a hurry when ball carrier is near by. Definitely upgrade over Merriweather in run support. One thing though....I'm not sure if I'm the only one who felt this way but he looked really small in pass coverage but he isn't real tiny guy at 5'11"....Oh well, hope it gives him more incentive to work his butt off.

So frustrating coming on here and other forums and reading stupid one line comments like "oh he sucked" at least there are a few people that understand what is actually going on and why things happening... example:

Rodney Harrison was one of the greatest safeties ever, but he was bad at one on one coverage against quick slot receivers. Almost all safeties not named Ed Reed are.

Chung is a safety, not a corner even though BB played him at corner intentionally. We'll be fine in real games.

Chung will be fine in a regular game with the proper people filling their roles which will allow Chung to be a hard hitting saftey. He got blown away by starting QB/WR playing a position that showcases his weakness. Big deal. He's still a rookie.

It's a Giants piece, but these tidbits were nice to read...
NY Giants News - Newsday - Scores, Schedules, News & Standings
Players who struggled:

-Bradshaw and Jacobs ran for a total of 22 yards on nine carries. However, Bradshaw had a nice blitz pickup on the TD pass to Nicks.
-----
Players who struggled:

-Green-Ellis dragged Clint Sintim with him into the end zone on his TD run.

Chung - Awful
Brace - Good push up the middle

cant say i watched the whole game, but i saw bits and pieces. chung got smoked a few times.

butler got smoked by derek hagan on a fly pattern late in the game, probably around the 4th quarter, but rhomar overthrew him by about a half of a step

those were only limited plays, so i cannot say they played poorly as a whole

Right, Sinorice Moss is no stud but he is very quick and very few Safeties are going to cover him 1-1. Also Chung was picked on the first TD, Pees was talking to him after, maybe about forcing his way through the pick quicker.

Chung will be all right. Except for getting badly beaten on two passes, he was all over the field last night, making tackles and hitting hard. Quite impressive most of the time. I suspect he'll learn to cover passes quickly enough.

Nunn and Aitken were both terrific, as was BJGE, who not only runs but catches. We literally have more good receivers than we know what to do with.

Vollmer looked quite good. Man, he is huge.

Posters in #9 & 10 hit the nail on the head, BB used a practice game to help Chung work on his weakness. well said PFiNY & Mav.

Chung was disappointing, but I hope it was an off night. Vollmer and Brace were more than solid. Don't remember much about Butler; not sure he was out there.

was brady there at all? Welker?

I think Chung will be able to pick it up a notch for the next games
