According to Reiss' Twitter. Obviously they had first waiver priority. Schefter also said the Packers were expected to put a claim in, and obviously the Chiefs (3rd priority) probably put one in too.

The Lions just signed a QB today too, Brooks Bollinger.

There are only two possbilities.
OPTION 1) No one offered as much as a 2012 7th.
OPTION 2) The staff is so incompetent that they didn't bother trying to get a pick for him.

If Detroit trades O'Connell to someone else for a pick in the next two weeks, then Belichick should fire one of his staff.

we saw perform in Friday night's game? O'Connell was a late third

round draft pick who was drafted ahead of two or three higher rated

quarterbacks. Admit it, the Patriots simply goofed on this pick.

THe more I think about it the more I think this was a personnel issue. The quick release possibly serves two purposes- one, to wake up the team (because there was more lackluster effort from the 2nd/3rd string in the last ps game). Two, because O'Connell just did not make the crucial transition any QB needs to do between their first and 2nd year.

You will remember how BB used to just yank Brady out of situational football and throw Cassel in to see if he could figure out what was going on and what he had to do in a split second. Come to think of it, I did see one or two instances during training camp where O'Connell was thrown into the scrimmage and failed to get on the same page as the corp he was throwing to.

Pretty much all of McDaniels' personal workout draft picks have been busts.

If you are indifferent enough not to care if someone else signs him, then wait.
If he is not worth at least a 7th to you, then wait.

If you expect another team to be interested, and he is worth at least a 7th to you, then you should pay the 7th and secure the player.

Again, why trade for something when you can get it for free...

IMHO......no more draft choices......BB alternates between 11 draft choices in 2009 and packaging picks in 2010 to get 3 or 4 stud picks......no way does he want to bring in 10 0r 11 nexy year.

On WEEI today (for those of you too objective to listen) they explained what happened and guess what, it's the same damn thing some of us were preaching here since last season. Backup QB's aren't supposed to try to impress in pre season. They are supposed to execute. This kid couldn't even get a knee right. Curren made the point that when coaches review game and practice tape they see what might have been (and perhaps should have been). Maybe KOC (and Gutz last season) engineer a scoring drive while not making one correct read or throw. That isn't what they're looking for. That's crap luck. You don't win championships because you're lucky. You win because you're disciplined and good.

KOC might be capable of achieving some level of success based on pluck and luck. Just not gonna happen here.

They all have an adequate arm or they wouldn't be here.

Cassel showed he had wheels his rookie season. His second, third and fourth he showed he had brains, too. As did Brady. KOC was no Cassel let alone Brady.

Thing is you never really know because projecting from college to the pros at that position is a crap shoot.
