Light, Kaczur, Vollmer, O'Callaghan, and Britt?

The only one you're missing is Bruce Armstrong...

OMG! I can't believe you think that's the final 53! What were you thinking? That's so wrong it's unbelievable!*

*This poster never bothered to read the list and just wanted to get in on the harassment

Isn't this how Belichick always does it? ;)

Another one claiming Wheatley will be cut?

Why would they cut a second round draft pick who, before getting injured, had cracked the starting rotation as a rookie last season?

I can't process it as well alphabetically. Here's my take:

QB(3): Brady, Walter, Hoyer. Hoyer could get cut and placed on the PS if he isn't picked up, but with O'Connell being cut I see Hoyer as our young 3rd QB unless a veteran comes in.

RB(4): Maroney, Taylor, Morris, Faulk. Remaining questions are whether Morris goes on IR and whether BJGE either gets his spot or gets a spot as a 5th RB. Bringing in a true FB is also an option, but it seems kind of late for this.

WR(6): Moss, Welker, Galloway, Lewis, Edelman, Aiken. Biggest remaining question (unless Deion Branch somehow gets cut and comes back) is whether Ray Ventrone gets a spot as a 7th WR/STer.

TE(3): Watson, Baker, Thomas. Alex Smith looks like the odd man out.

OT(4): Light, Kaczur, Vollmer, O'Callaghan. LeVoir goes to PUP for 6 weeks and probably bumps O'Callaghan. You have Britt listed as a 5th OT - I can't see that as a possibility. The other question is whether neither O'Callaghan or Britt make the final 53, leaving only 3 OT's until LeVoir comes back.

OG/C(5): Mankins, Koppen, Neal, Ohrnberger, Wendell/Connolly. You list only 3 interior lineman, which is obviously inadequate. I see Ohrnberger making the team, Yates getting cut, and one of Wendell/Connolly making it (most seem to favor Wendell) unless a veteran OG/C gets brought in.

DL(7): Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Brace, Green, Wright, Pryor. No real questions here. You have Darryl Richard making the final 53, which I consider a major longshot. He hopefully makes it through to the Practice Squad.

OLB/DE(5): Thomas, Burgess, Wood, Crable, Banta-Cain. Major question is whether Crable goes on IR.

ILB(4): Mayo, Guyton, Lenon, Ninkovitch. I see Lenon as a lock as the 3rd ILB, with Ninkovitch bumping Alexander and Ciurciu for the last spot, unless an outside player is brought in.

S(4-5): Meriweather, Sanders, Chong, McGowan, Slater. Slater is on the bubble but probably has the inside track to a spot as a core STer.

CB(5): Bodden, Springs, Butler, Wilhite, Wheatley. No questions here.

K(1): Gostkowski

P(1): Hanson

LS(1): Ingram

If I had to guess right now, barring IR for Morris and Crable, we will carry 24 offense and 26 defense. 7 DL, 9 LBs and 10 DBs on defense (including Slater), and 3 QBs, 4 RBs, 3 TEs, 6 WRs and 8 OLs on offense. Slater bumps O'Callaghan for the last spot. When LeVoir comes back we go to 9 OLs, with the player being bumped depending on injuries. The last set of cuts include Ventrone, O'Callaghan, Alexander, Alex Smith and BJGE.

Just a guess. I'm expecting a few more surprises before Saturday.

Let's put it by position for better scrutiny:

Offense: 24
QB (3) - Brady, Walter, Hoyer
RB (4) - Maroney, F. Taylor, Morris, Faulk -- CUTS: Green-Ellis, C. Taylor
WR (6) - Moss, Welker, Galloway, Lewis, Aiken, Edelman -- CUTS: Ventrone, Nunn, Ortiz
TE (3) - Baker, D. Thomas, Watson -- CUTS: A. Smith
OT (5) - Light, Kaczur, Vollmer, O'Callaghan, Britt -- CUTS: Bussey
OG/C (3) - Mankins, Koppen, Neal -- CUTS: Yates, Wendell, Connolly, Ohrnberger

Defense: 24
DL (10) - Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Burgess, Green, Wright, Brace, Banta-Cain, Pryor, Richard -- CUTS: Ninkovich, Adams, S. Williams
LB (6) - Mayo, A. Thomas, Guyton, Woods, Crable, Lenon -- CUTS: Alexander, Ciurciu
CB (4) - Bodden, Springs, Wilhite, Butler -- CUTS: Wheatley, Love, Rogers
S (4) - Meriweather, Sanders, Chung, McGowan -- CUTS: Slater, H. Jones

Special Teams: 3
ST (3) - Gostkowski, Hanson, Ingram

No team would go into the regular season without a backup at interior OL.
There will be at least one, if not two.
As noted, there will not be five OT's. Swap Wendell for O'Callaghan.

Based on what we've seen, I think Alexander is more likely than Lenon, mostly due to ST.

10 DL is too many. Richard has not played his way onto this team. If anyone had a shot, based on performance, it would be Steve Williams, but he hasn't either.

I'd be pretty surprised if Wheatley was cut. Yes, he has played poorly in the first three pre-season games. However, he hasn't thrown two INT's, which is the benchmark required to for cutting high-round second-year players. Plus the Patriots know that they go through corners, based on size and how they play. Swap Wheatley for Richard.

I think Green-Ellis somehow makes it, and he has been in on special teams.

With two extra spots, I'd go with Ohrnberger and Green-Ellis, with maybe Ninkovich right behind.

Thanks for the re-format.

OFFENSE
I'M OK with 23 of the 24. Perhaps we'll keep Hoyer, perhaps not. But this choice is fine.
What I am not fine with is the idea of Britt and O'Callaghan being our backups at center and guard. Your OG/C listing is short by TWO players. You need to lose Britt and include the guards.

DEFENSE
I'm OK with 23 of the 24. Keeping Richard instead of Wheatley is demented.
You have one more roster spot available for a special teamer: Slater, Ventrone or Alexander
The open question is whether Crable makes the team, but yes seem OK for now. If not, Alexander or Ninkovitch gets his linebacker spot.

BOTTOM LINE
Our roster are so similar that I agree with 49 of the players on this crazy roster.

Let's put it by position for better scrutiny:

Offense: 24
QB (3) - Brady, Walter, Hoyer
RB (4) - Maroney, F. Taylor, Morris, Faulk -- CUTS: Green-Ellis, C. Taylor
WR (6) - Moss, Welker, Galloway, Lewis, Aiken, Edelman -- CUTS: Ventrone, Nunn, Ortiz
TE (3) - Baker, D. Thomas, Watson -- CUTS: A. Smith
OT (5) - Light, Kaczur, Vollmer, O'Callaghan, Britt -- CUTS: Bussey
OG/C (3) - Mankins, Koppen, Neal -- CUTS: Yates, Wendell, Connolly, Ohrnberger

Defense: 24
DL (10) - Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Burgess, Green, Wright, Brace, Banta-Cain, Pryor, Richard -- CUTS: Ninkovich, Adams, S. Williams
LB (6) - Mayo, A. Thomas, Guyton, Woods, Crable, Lenon -- CUTS: Alexander, Ciurciu
CB (4) - Bodden, Springs, Wilhite, Butler -- CUTS: Wheatley, Love, Rogers
S (4) - Meriweather, Sanders, Chung, McGowan -- CUTS: Slater, H. Jones

Special Teams: 3
ST (3) - Gostkowski, Hanson, Ingram

Maybe this thread could designate as the Final 53 Prediction Thread. That way all attempts could be localized.

Hell, if someone wants to track and tally for the closest "winner" I will send the "winner" a 6 pack of Gritty McDuffs Halloween Ale. In the event of multiple winners....I will give myself a 6 pack and drink to you all.

21 and older only, of course.

I'm making my list in order of height. In case of identical heights, it will be by date of birth.

Well, if you take the word of Joshua, I've already won:

Instead of date of birth, could you use social security number? Or, better yet, Wonderlic score?

Why would they cut a second round draft pick who, before getting injured, had cracked the starting rotation as a rookie last season?
He's made of glass (have you forgotten he was on IR last year?) and has made no spectacular plays this preseason.

I agree with all your comments and all your choices except Ninkovitch in the last roster spot instead of Alexander and Ciurciu. As of now, I would choose Alexander. In any case, I expect the 53rd player to come from another team.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Ninkovich (and would people stop writing it as "Ninkovitch?") is NOT a ILB. He should fall under your OLB/DE category and NO other.

He has only played with his hand down as a 4-3 DE in this defense, as depth for Banta-Cain and Burgess.

Grouping him in with Alexander and Lenon is like grouping Moss in with Koppen and Mankins.

That is a glaring, glaring problem with your projection. Other than the fact that you are using the 3-4 as a base, which doesn't reflect the reality of what this group of personnel has played in the three preseason games to date.
