According to Schefter, he's retiring.

Sorta fitting that they'd retire on the day.

next thing you know Brett Favre will retire....

oh he did?

well, I bet he UN retires right after...

oh he did?

Thomas and Bruschi have some respect and decency...they won't do that to their teams. If they say they are going to retire, they will stay retired.

Did you see that espn promo, where the 2 anchors are walking by the Old North Church in Boston and a "Pat Patriot" lookalike is placing 2 lanterns in the window and Stuart Scott says:

"What is it?,,,,,two lanterns means he's retired....and one means he's unretired"?.........very funny about Lord Favre.

That wasn't a Pat Patriot lookalike...that was the Sam the Minuteman, the mascot for UMass-Amhearst.

If BB called and asked Tedy to come back late in the season/postseason, I could see Tedy unretire to help the team that much. Play his own game of Favrequad "Efs" the league, no.

Follow up: Someone on another site is claiming that Rosenhaus sent out a tweet denying that Thomas will be retiring.

Zach Thomas will probably end up in the HOF, but Tedy will never get a sniff. That is the travesty of it all.

That is the only way I see him coming back...which to me is the opposite of Favre, it's unretiring to help his team rather than pad his numbers or to screw another team over.

Zach Thomas: 184 games, 1076 tackles (678 solo), 20.5 sacks, 17 INTs, 4 TDs.

Tedy Bruschi: 189 games, 735 tackles (448 solo), 30.5 sacks, 12 INTs, 4 TDs.

I doubt either will end up in the HOF, but I wouldn't think it a "travesty".

Pulling a Bruschi would be playing your entire 13 year career with one franchise. Not many guys can say that they accomplished that.

Tedy went back and forth on that topic today. When he was asked directly about that exact scenario, he basically said no, that wasn't going to happen. He had fulfilled his goals..

But, then, on the 2nd to last question, he kind of backtracked and left the door open because he said something like "Just call me or text me and I'll be here to do what I can."

Now, what would be cool, but I know that the NO FUN LEAGUE would hit them with a massive fine for, is if the team all came out wearing #54 jerseys right when they took the field for the first game... And then they took them off and gave them to fans and they were all autographed.. THAT would be awesome..

IF you are going to post numbers, you should make sure that you have ALL of them..

Bruschi had over 680 Solo and 387 assisted.. Not just 735 tackles total.

Thomas had 1106 solo tackles and 627 assisted. But as some have pointed out, Tackle totals aren't a good judge of things because there are teams who give out, essentially, 2 tackles per play (ala the Colts).

NFL.COM only goes back to 2001 with their keeping of the stats because they haven't put all the information in yet.. Where as pro-football-reference.com goes all the way back.

Zach Thomas had 16 Forced fumbles, the same as Bruschi.

What you don't mention, and really is important, is that Thomas played his entire career in the 4-3 while Bruschi started in the 3-4, went to the 4-3, and then back to the 3-4.

Bruschi also has 3 rings and 5 SB appearances while Thomas has zero.

I'll settle for a Bruschi highlight DVD.

Just saw on TV that Thomas actually *isn't* retiring- he's going to play this season against doctors' recommendations.

In such an intense, violent game why would you risk serious injury??? Not sure what motivates someone to do this, money does not appear to be an issue... always thought it was better to walk away with dignity and on your own terms, see Tedy, rather than be carted away and wind up living a half life...

I was wondering your thinking behind this. Why do you think Thomas will end up in the HOF? I think both Tedy and Zach were great LB's, but not the high end LBs of all time...HOF worthy.

nfl.com only go's back to 2001 because

tackels was not a official nfl stat untell 2001
