OT: Jets' Sanchez tears it up against Jints

Sounds like some of you have seen 16 more games of Sanchez then I.

Sanchez will be not only throwing to Stuckey and Cotchery, but also Keller and Leon, that should help some. Not to mention a good O line and running game.

I do agree the kid is raw. I expect plenty of rookie mistakes, and was all for starting Clemmens and letting him ride the bench.

It is what it is.

Sanchez "lit it up"? I don't know about that. Like someone else said, the TD to Stuckey was more a broken play than a great throw. Nonetheless, he did look good. Not stunning or anything, but solid. I definitely agree with Rex's decision to start him over Clemens, who never struck me as a very smart QB.

I'm not sure what he'll do this year-- probably 20 TDs or less, maybe single-digit picks-- but I think he'll be a good to great QB one day. We'll see. His biggest weakness is lack of experience and we may see that come into play later in the regular season.

Man, the kids looks like the real deal to me. I think he has elevated that entire franchise. Expectations should be sky high for all in New York & New Jersey. Anything less than 11 wins and advancing deep into the playoffs is a huge disappointment.

What stats and Jet's win/loss record would have to be compiled in order for the Patriots fans on this forums to say he had a good year as a rookie?

Considering the WRs that he's throwing to, nothing much. I don't think anyone expects him to be stellar right away-if he can get 20+ TDs with less than 15 INTs, I'll be awfully impressed.

You forgot the smiley.

He's got the smile, he's got the attitude, he's got the So-Cal background--I smell 14-2. He's gonna tear up the league. Hide the women and children

Re: Jets Sanchez tears it up against Jints

I've got a co-worker who's a big Jets fan so I'm interested to hear what he'll say tomorrow when I talk to him.

He will probably talk about how they are the greatest team ever, and are superbowl bound....untill they have a bad game again, then he will turn on all the players and talk about how they suck. Thats what all jets fans do.

Re: Jets Sanchez tears it up against Jints

thinking back to the draft, the jets gave up almost nothing to move up and get this guy. moved from #17 to #12 i think with a 2nd, 6th and 3 backup players.

ummmmmmm.....

The dude was drafted 5th overall...

they gave up a 1st and 2nd rounder plus 3 players.

he is a HUGE gamble. I saw him play at USC, reminded me a lot of that Leinart guy.

back to back trade up drafts can kill teams, especially if one of those has almost already been an official bust (Gholston)

Re: Jets Sanchez tears it up against Jints

He's going to tell you that THIS is their year.

Just like last year when the Jets got Favre.

And the year they got Mangini as their coach.

And every year since 1969.

Because he is what he is.

A Jets fan.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

They swapped 1st round picks gave up there 2nd and 3 players, 1 of which was a starter. A hell of a deal. Thanks Eric.

No trade up for Ghoulston, the Jets were slotted #6 overall due to finishing 4 and 12 in 07/08.

Since Tannebaum the Jets have traded up for Revis, Keller, D Harris, and Sanchez in the first, not sure Harris might have been a 2nd rounder. Jets traded down in the 2nd then back up to get Kellen Clemmens.

They also traded up to grab Shonn Greene #1 in the 3rd round of the last draft.

Quality over quanity has left the Jets thin as far as depth, but has also helped to establish a core of quality young starters.

I believe his QB rating was over 100.

I have to say I was quite pleased with his progress since last week Vs the Ravens.

Maybe he did not light it up, and I can see why the majority on this site would feel that way (7 years of Brady), but as a Jet fan, I think we finally found our guy, his ability to roll out and throw on the run is second to only Drew Brees. Sanchez has "IT"

I need a back flip smiley.:D

wow, wasn't broadway penny supposed to have 'IT'...

Wilfork has a little surprise in store for your hero...

If nothing else, I admire your optimism.

I really do.

Pretty admirable.

So, tell us; what's it like as a fan saying "THIS is the year, I can feel it in my bones!" every ****ing year for the last 40 years.

Inquiring minds want to know.

LOL, Your a good guy G.
:)
I don't think I ever have said or thought that, which in and of it self is pretty sad, although I was predicting 11 and 5 in O5.

You guys got a taste of what we went through last year when Testaverde went down on you in 1999. That was the best shot you've had for some time. I can't wish good things for the Jets, but I do hope you don't have an injury derail your team should it ever be good again.

come on?

I'm supposed to buy the $h!t sandwich you are selling here? You cleverly leave out Vilma, Baker, Gholston...and somehow count Clemens as a positive Dude is a 3 year vet and can't beat out a rookie.

I think your boy Revis is good...and Rhodes, I like Harris and a few others, but that isn't a "core" .... and we both know there is no real history of Jets that gets passed down etc. NO real winning attitude amongst the players. Your team is always in flux. I think Sanchez was a HORRIBLE pick by you guys, I live in Cali and watch a ton of pac 10 games. When you guys drafted him, the raider fans were laughing at you guys. yes....RAIDER fans.

I hope things turn around for your guys, I really do. I hate our divisional rivals being the fins, but they are better than the Jets right now, thats just a fact.

Good luck, I hope your boy Sanchez pans out. But I recall a few years ago, the second coming of Christ (aka Kellen Clemens) getting STEAM-sacked by Richard Seymour in the endzone, and looking like a clam.

I hope he learns fast, because that same #93 will be on the hunt WEEK 2!!!!

Quick question for you since you're out on the left coast; was Pete the poodle serious when he basically said Sanchez was not ready to come out or was it more of a case that he wanted the kid to stay another year out of selfishness. If I am not mistaken, SC is starting a freshman QB this year, or am I wrong?

Yeah, Barkley (I'm in socal too). Barkley's starting because he won the competition with several other guys, though. Obviously, it was in Carroll's best interests for Sanchez to come back, but he Leinart had his blessing to leave as a junior (which he didn't, although he should have). As a Pats fan, I don't have a lot of good things to say about Pete, but one thing I will say for him is that he does look out for his players. He certainly seemed awfully sincere when he said that Sanchez wasn't ready.

Thanks for the intel. Carroll is right where he belongs; a college coach, he's perfectly suited for the job...........

XXXX Sandwich?

Jets did not trade up for Vilma Ghoulston or Baker, I honestly don't understand. I wasn't saying Clemens was good or bad, just listing the guys that the Jets have traded up for since Tannenbaum took over in 06.

You made a comment that the Jets traded up for Ghoulston and that is not accurate.

back to back trade up drafts can kill teams, especially if one of those has almost already been an official bust (Gholston)

Technically The Jets traded up for Clemmens in 06 after trading down 15 spots in the 2nd and picking up another 2nd for that they then moved back up 5 spots to grab Kellen in front of the Vikes who then went on to draft T Jackson.

Re: Jets Sanchez tears it up against Jints

Dude, I live in So Cal too! What up? I've watched the only year of him starting and your right, he's not ready for the NFL. How do you play one year of college football and think you can play in the NFL? Despite his big numbers, I really wasn't impressed. Like the last three QB's that have come out of USC, their arm strength is weak and struggle against the blitz. In addition, Leinart, Booty and Sanchez had a tendency to start games very slow early on but explode in the second half. Sanchez will find out the hard way that he won't have the luxury of starting games slow like he did in college. I find it funny how people think that Sanchez is going to do anything with Jericho Cotchery and some guy named Chansi Stuckey at WR. When Sanchez lights it up in a real game, come talk to me.

Doesn't look like anyone topped this for you after week 1.
