Chan Gailey has been axed. He was held over from the Herminator. I have a feeling Pioli wanted McDaniels and settled for Todd Haley and decided to roll the dice with the OC. Maybe he should have fired the OL coach while he was at it. Cassel has a 2nd degree MCL sprain and could be ready by week one. But with $28M invested I think they should hold him out until they get the OL fixed.

:agree:

This.

Two weeks before the start of the season! That doesn't happen too often. Pioli's not fooling around.

This is actually a very surprising move on the part of Todd Haley. One would have thought that they'd have known prior to this whether they could work together..

He was a holdover from the old regime, and Haley had supposedly thought long and hard about serving as his own playcaller before keeping Gailey on. Well, he seems to have changed his mind.

I don't see this as a big deal at all.

Ummm . . . we don't have an OC to fire. You'll have to settle for O'C. :) :(

Actually, my thought was to keep Brady out until OUR O-line is fixed.

Ummm..... I don't aeem to remember us having any problems with OUR O-Line.

It's just the neverending spiral of new wankers complaining about every little thing and ignoring the scoreboard.

Brady got hit once, that means the OL sux

Waiting for the following thread to start

"Chiefs released Gailey their OC,Should the Patriots sign him?"

My guess is the origional post on our line was meant to be a joke.

However, it has now passed into universal NFL truth that our line sucks. Dukes was wailing again about the 2007 Eagles game where the overpowered us into only 31 points.

It's funny over at NFL.com that some clown named Bucky is back on the "aging" defense thing.

Yeah, maybe.

Except for the one out of every fifteen or so pass plays, where either Light or Kazcur gets turnstiled and somebody gets a killshot on Brady. Other than that Mr. Brady, how was the play of the offensive line?

For just about every other team in the NFL, the offensive line is trying to get used to new starters, new offensive systems, new coaches, new quarterback, etc. This line has been together for four years, with the same scheme, the same head coach, the same QB, and the same o-line coach. And Brady's getting beaten up.

If the pass-pro doesn't get any better, he'll be on IR by the middle of October.

The Belichick Way: Still the Best - The Fifth Down Blog - NYTimes.com
* Build your team so that it can go after any of these weaknesses. The Patriots lost the best quarterback in the NFL not even one quarter into the 2008 season, yet they were still able to adjust their offense to attack defenses in any manner needed. Need proof? Try this. The Pats rushed for 257 yards against Denver in Week 7, the most by a New England team in 23 years. They also had a backup quarterback become only the fifth player in NFL history to throw for over 400 passing yards in back-to-back games. They found a way to run or pass with extraordinary effectiveness whenever they needed to.
-----
* A team doesn’t need a great running back to win. A good one will do if you have quality blocking up front (and New England had that in 2008, ranking 2nd in the team POA win percentage run blocking metric). And if all you have are a collection of solid backs, always use the healthiest one. This is why the Patriots drive fantasy football coaches up a wall -– they’ll always go with the healthy back and will never let anyone know who that is until the game starts.

From an interview with Mike Martz - a mad offensive genius in his own right:
Pepper still grinding away - The Boston Globe
From a coaching perspective, what do you think makes the Patriots such a dangerous offense? “When you have Tom Brady, you have to take advantage of his ability to see the field and make good decisions and terrific, accurate throws. You just have to do that. To park it in the garage wouldn’t be right. The other part of this is the offensive line. Over the years, I think they deserve so much credit for that offense’s success. That includes their line coach [Dante Scarnecchia]. They lay the groundwork for everything they do. What they’re doing now - spreading people out and getting the ball into the seams and taking advantage of Tom’s ability - is outstanding.’’

WTF are you smoking? Did you steal Rickey Williams stash?? Seriously did you?

Seriously, whatever you are on, you need to smoke something different.

The Pats O-line has not been the same over the past 4 years. Nor has the blocking scheme been the same. Instead of making sh!t up, you might want to check your facts... Neal has missed significant time at RG. Kaczur and Light have both missed time as well.

Brady has been hit twice in this pre-season. One of which he said was his own fault. That doesn't work out to 1 in 15.. That is 1 in 21. And if you bothered to look at the season, you'd see that actually better than the number of hits he takes in a season.

Some people just want to whine and complain about every little perceived problem whether its true or not.

From Patriots.com

WRT to the statement that these guys have missed a lot of games, here it is from 2005-2008: 5 players, 16 games for a total of 80 player-games for 72,70,67,61,77

2008: 73/80 (91%)
2007: 70/80 (88%)
2006: 72/80 (90%)
2005: 58/80 (73%) (Light's knee, Koppen's shoulder)

These guys have played a lot of games together the past four years, probably more than just about any other team. All are 30 or older, except for Mankins, who is 27. In the NFL, if you're not getting better, you're getting worse. Can you honestly say this line is better than it was in 2007?

Now how many of those games did they play together? That's what you're talking about, and your point doesn't address that.

Also, in addition to getting better and getting worse, you can also simply be staying good. Have fun freaking out whenever Brady gets hit, though- I'd rather understand that he's a professional football player and football players get hit.
