Although barring a complete collapse by the Pats and another Super Bowl win from the Steelers the Pats have the Team of the Decade title locked, the REGULAR SEASON Team of the Decade is up for grabs with the Pats having a slight advantage:

Regular Season Team of the Decade Dept: New England and Indianapolis are in a fight to the finish for the crown of the best regular-season team of the first decade of the century. From 2000 through 2008, here are the teams with the top winning percentages:

2. Indianapolis 101-43 .701

Two notes: The Colts play host to Jacksonville to open the season Sept. 13, and if they win, they'd be tied for the decade lead for at least 30 hours; New England doesn't play until the next night ... BTW, I think King is wrong about the Pats and Colts are tied for the lead for 30 hours if the Colts beat Jacksonville since the Colt and Pats would have the same amount of wins, but the Pats would still have one less loss which would make the Pats still the leaders.

Not to mention that even if you ignored the playoffs, a virtual tie in the regular season STILL is won by the Patriots as a 16-0 regular season has to be a big tiebreaker.

It's just something to talk about. The Team of the Decade is utterly irrelevant itself. They don't give out awards for Team of the Decade, nor is it an official title. Like the Regular Season Team of the Decade, the Team of the Decade is a totally made up media creation with no real relevancy to anything.

On a related note: it is impossible for a team to host more than two of the five playoff games (in each conference) in the same year.
