OT: Have Manning/the Colts lost popularity?

I'm in no way saying that Manning is going through the motions or wants to lose. I'm saying that winning a championship, now that he has his 1 championship, doesn't mean as much to him and that he has more in common with Brett Favre than Joe Montana or Tom Brady.

I heard him interviewed a year or two ago on tv, and they asked him his goals for the season. He said to throw 40 TDs, less than 10 INT and 4,000 yards. Nothing about winning a Super Bowl.

As for 2007 and Brady's records and all that junk...I would rather have had him throw for 2,500 yards, 15 TD if it meant winning the SB and going undefeated. All it proved was that if you're a pass happy team and have great receivers, you can do what Manning has been praised for.

I dislike Seyton as much as the next guy, but he's a quality player and a competitor. To say anything less is an insult to him and football knowledge.
It was only a matter of time before some maroon dragged out the old "here is what I think and if you think otherwise you are a maroon" argument.

IMO Peyton is a quality player and a competitor, and is as good as he is because of so much film work, etc etc, but that isn't the question. It is about fire. Peyton just is not in the same league as guys like Brady.

Think Kenneth Sims vs Willie McGinest.

I don't doubt that you heard him say that but it does suprise me as someone as image-conscious as Peyton would spew such statitical self-absorbtion. Sheesh.

I can't believe some posters on this board are questioning one of the greatest QB's of all time's drive and motivation to play the game of football. The Colts won 9 straight (I think) to finish with a 12-4 record and it's pretty much all thanks to Manning.

How can you possibly sit behind a computer screen and say that he doesn't still have the passion to win and win the big one one more time?

That being said - the Colts are kinda losing popularity but it has nothing to do with Manning's play. Peyton's OC left, their head coach is gone - things are changing on the Colts. I think a lot of people don't think they are as dangerous as they used to be.

Technically, without that game, the Colts would have still been in the playoffs as the 6 seed. The Ravens would have been out. And btw, if not for a bad call by the refs, the Colts would have won vs the Jags & been the #1 seed in the AFC

yes they would of been the 6th seed. btw, i hope you are not talking about the PI call on 4th down are you? The colt defender did hit the jag players, and I find it some what amusing that a colt fan is complaining about a PI call . . .

Also, if they had beaten the jags, I don't think Tenn would of laid down in the last game of the season as it would of been for the division and #1 seed . . .

When their careers are all said and done...Brady will be counting the rings while Manning will be telling his children how him and a murderer broke some meaningless QB/WR records, not about his 10 plus years of first round playoff exits. To be the greatest of the great, you have to do more than win once.

Seems like a purely anecdotal premise, IMO. Sure the Colts aren't getting as much attention now as they were after Manning set the TD record or after they won the SB, but why wouldn't that be the case?

As for Bill B's premise that Manning is now 'resting on his laurels', that's just stupid and doesn't even warrant an extended response. By all accounts of people who actually know what's going on, Manning's one of the hardest workers in the league. Just because you don't like him doesn't mean that he's not a great QB- in fact, I'd argue that you don't like him precisely because he is a great QB.

Or he'll be talking about his SB and 3 MVPs and the career yards and touchdown records that he's probably going to shatter. Seriously, get a handle on your obsession already. You're a walking stereotype.

Sounds a lot like a certain quarterback in Minnesota...and his records don't mean anything to most people, do they?

I don't wish the guy any harm. I've just always found him annoying to watch, even when he was throwing 20+ INT a season. He strikes me as a big phony on and off the field. And having to hear the likes of Jim Nantz give him a verbal rimjob makes me sick.

ManningOverratedHick? Hey are you the same ManningOverratedHick that was banned a few years ago for trolling on Coltfreaks.com and also harrassing their members in pm?
If this is the same poster then your hatred for the Colts and Peyton goes beyond normal rivalry dislike. You are obsessed.

Don't even give this ManningOveratedHick guy the pleasure of a response, he trolls colts boards and the espn boards all day for years and may infact be more obsessed with Peyton than the majority of Colts fans, it's quite pathetic actually

I've never been on a Colts board, no. The old indystar one back in like 2003-2004, but my name was Boston related, I forget what my name was.

As for the idea that I'm obsessed, my sn doesn't help me at all, but my hatred for him is due to overexposure and he has an annoying way about him on and off the field. Same reason a lot of non-Red Sox fans and non-Red Sox players hate Kevin Youkilis.

I also don't appreciate the fact that he couldn't take the loses in Foxboro like a man and had to get a rule changed to level the playing field, but that's another story.
