McKenzie to IR. Wow! That one hit me like a ton of bricks. Never saw that one coming. :)

Reiss also mentioned that BB said that McKenzie would be IR-ed soon.

Not sure why they re-signed Ortiz unless they don't plan on playing Moss and Welker that much in the next game. Though, they will still have Galloway, Lewis, Edelman, Aiken, and Nunn trying to impress..

Ortiz could be added just to play either Santana Moss or Antwaan Randel El on the scout team. The Pats add and drop players like crazy this time of the year.

They probably just need an extra body for practice. The players

will be dropping like flies next week. The roster goes to 75 on Tuesday

and 53 on Saturday. Ortiz's time with the team will be very brief.

I am not so sure about the WR position. Moss and Welker are set, but who is the third WR? and who backs up Moss? Galloway has not impressed in games or, according to Reiss, in practices, and it is not clear that Lewis can step up to a larger role than he has played.

So what, you think maybe it's a guy off the street?? LOL

Especially with Edelman continuing to be out. :(

Right, Edelman, Welker and Ventrone all did not practice today. Bodies are needed, but nobody seems to have stepped up to fill Gaffney's role yet.

While it is true that no one in two whole preseason games has stepped up to file Gaffney's role, Ortiz is not a candidate for anything but the Practice Squad, and will not even likely beat out Nunn for that roster spot.

We have brought in Lewis and Galloway to compete for that role, while keeping Aiken as backup receiver. Edelman could also surprise and get some reps, or not.

Where's that Rick Caldwell guy when you need him?

Yeah, I gotta agree with you. However, I think that Edelman has a good chance to make the team because of what he's shown so far. Coach likes football players, and Edelman certainly isn't afraid to do whatever he's asked. He has a lot of different skill sets, so that's also a plus.

I think that Galloway makes the team, only because he's still got great speed and will take some heat away from Moss.

If he doesn't catch the ball, then that pretty much negates the speed threat offered to lessen the "heat" on Moss.

Just my 2¢....

Guess we can surmize the details on the ACL tear pretty well now

Gaffney was sure-handed (usually). That's a valuable skill, don't get me wrong, but I'm not exactly worried about our ability to replace it. Galloway can do everything Gaffney can and more, and if for some reason he can't, Lewis can.

The guy's been catching balls for 15 years. I'm pretty sure he'll continue to catch- just needs some time to get used to Brady and vice versa. If you're going to be worried about anything, worry about something that does deteriorate over time, like ability to get open.

Agreed. Im not sure i understand why everyone is down on Galloways catching ability. He's caught 682 passes. lol.
Joey Galloway
That one he dropped in the EZ was merely a case of needing more time to get pn the same page with TFB. It was clear on that play, that he didnt expect the ball right then, and at that velocity. Im sure he went back to the huddle, and said "crap Tom, the ball was movin"

Bottom line, its been two preseason games. Galloway will be fine. I also think Lewis will impress some people this year. Im far from worried about who will replace Gaffney.
