Patriots, LeVoir reach contract extension - Reiss' Pieces - Boston.com

LeVoir (6-7, 310) was initially claimed off waivers from the Rams on Sept. 1, 2008. He appeared in every game for the Patriots last season, making two starts at right tackle.

The Patriots now have four of their top offensive tackles under contract for multiple years -- starters Matt Light (2010) and Nick Kaczur (2012), and backups Sebastian Vollmer (2012) and LeVoir (2011).

Good news. 8 OL until week six looks likelier...

EDIT: Love it when my subject lines change like magic.

Clever, Macheavelian Dante has his OL porkers mostly locked up while BB needs some post 2009 bodies to play DL. Interesting.

If Kaczur's extension was bad news for Light, this is bad news for O'Callaghan. Or Britt.

I'm luke-warm on Britt and Yates anyway.

At least O'Callaghan showed some good potential in 06 and got hurt. This is make it or break it for him this year anyway.

The ultimate in making the club from the tub! :)

Congrats to LeVoir -- a heck of a fast career turnaround for a guy who was on waivers this time last year.

Maybe. Not impossible for me to see O'Callaghan to move inside to guard next season with Neal and Mankins hitting F/A.

Can they extend Mankins now please?

I get the feeling something bigger is on the way. I think they are starting to free up some cap room for a big extension.

75 or 12? :D

I don't see any way that would be considered. Our Guards are mobile and on the smaller side, O'Callaghan doesn't fit in any way, shape or form as a Guard on this team.

70 also says hi.

Forgot him...any one of them would be good. I'd prefer 12 or 75 to end the comparison or complaint columns for a while.

Right, but that doesn't mean they have to stay that way. if anyone is willing to change schemes to go after a talent surplus, its BB.

Its really strange to see 4 tackles locked up for multiple years. Makes me think that Light definitely isn't getting his extension.

I doubt we'll see us change schemes for a marginal talent who is hurt all the time.

Hopefully 75. 12 and 93 are already getting paid, and 70 is one step down the priority ladder and hasn't had to wait as long. Of course, a restructure of Brady's deal could be the piece missing for getting Wilfork tied up.

LeVoir's deal is pretty close to veteran min.

My take is that LeVoir's about to go on the IR and faced the prospect of entering FA coming off an injury. This way, LeVoir gets the stability afforded by some guaranteed money, and the Pats get a decent backup locked up for cheep for two extra years

IR? I don't know about that. Reg. Season PUP seems likely, though.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. If Coach was looking at putting him on IR, the team would likely as not give him an injury settlement and release him.

I am glad that the Pats got LeVoir signed to an extension. LeVoir jumped over O'Callaghan and Britt to become the swing tackle and LeVoir saw time in every game last season, including 2 starts for Kaczur and major time in relief of Light. And he seemed very comfortable at both positions.

Great signing. LeVoir exceeded all expectations last year as the swing tackle and even performed adequately at LT. He was a MAJOR upgrade over what we had seen from O'Callaghan and especially Britt. I could see him becoming our long term #3 tackle behind SeaBass and Kaczur, or possibly even eventually becoming our RT.

OT is now solid with Light, Kaczur, Vollmer and LeVoir all signed for the 2010 and beyond. Mankins is now the only critical re-signing necessary for the OL. Terrific job by the FO quietly addressing this major area early on.
