Very early, but so far, this looks to be potentially one of the best drafts every for the Pats:
2A Chung - nothing bad so far, looks like he could actually grow into a worthy replacement for Rodney. Chung and Meriweather look like our eventual starting S combo, with Sanders a worthy backup.
2B Brace - massive and solid against the run, has shown more athleticism and penetration than expected and has been used a lot at DE. Could be a major boost to an already potent DL.
2C Butler - inconsistent but terrific ability, still learning the system. I think he could be a starter opposite Bodden by the end of the season, and certainly by 2010.
2D Vollmer - raw but massive and athletic, looks to be the #3 OT behind Light and Kaczur this season, and a potential starter by 2010. So far hasn't done anything to suggest that we reached too far for him.
3A Tate - inactive and will likely be on IR, but terrific ability and could compete for a starting job in 2010. Could be a long-term steal.
3B McKenzie - on IR, but will likely be a key part of a 3-man ILB rotation with Mayo and Guyton starting in 2010.
4 Ohrnberger - looks like he will probably make the 53 man roster, and could end up replacing Neal in 2010.
5 Bussey - likely cut and possible PS.
6A Ingram - seems to be doing well and holding his own in terms of competing with Hodel for the LS spot on the 53 man roster.
6B Pryor - 2nd biggest surprise of camp (after Edelman), very agressive and terrific penetration, looks to make the 53 man squad (particularly with the LeKevin Smith trade) and add a lot of versatility to depth to the defense. I doubt he'll make it to the PS if he gets cut - he'll probably end up on the Jets backing up Kris Jenkins, so I hope we keep him.
7A Edelman - biggest surprise of camp, looks to be a lock for the 53 man roster as a WR, could even compete for starting time. Won't make it to the PS if cut.
7B Darryl Richards - haven't seen much of him. Could be PS materal.
UDFA Brian Hoyer - unlikely to make the 53 man roster with O'Connell and Walter plus all of the competition at other positions. Would be a nice addition to the PS if he makes it that far.
Given how much veteran depth and talent there is on this team, that's an unbelievable performance from the rookie class. 10 of 12 picks (Chung, Brace, Butler, Vollmer, Tate, McKenzie, Ohrnberger, Ingram, Pryor and Edelman) could end up either starting at their positions or playing significant supporting roles by 2011. That would be incredible.
