Going on sometime now. Don't mean to be impolite. But its a simple question. I'd like a simple answer.

Yes. However, donations pay for server resources, which in turn increase performance. I can't help noticing that your name is blue...

But...if you stuck around for the second half, Ian diagnosed the problem and got things moving swimmingly. That's what preseason's about, right? :)

Re: Is this Board Going to Lock up During Every Game?

lmfao... attack of the "we're better than you's".

In QB12's defense, and as most of the postes in the thread should remember, it's not like this is a new phenomina. Last season, the season before that, etc... all have had similar issues.

So while donations likely do go towards server resources, they don't just magically resolve resource issues. Server admins do, if it's not a resource issue. So just because you've donated, don't start harping like this guy is a shmuck for not donating yet... cause guess what... I haven't yet either.

Besides helping Ian with the site, you also get an awesome bag of stuff from the Pro Shop: http://www.patsfans.com/new-england...eive-free-pats-t-shirt-page4.html#post1462603

How can everyone who is here and a Pats fan not have donated yet?

Totally agree, it takes a lot of resources to maintain the hardware infrastructure given the amount of traffic that we generate during the games.

Every one who has not donated, please re-consider. It is a win-win situation.

I have a wife, and 18mo old and live in southern california. What I don't have is a 6 figure income, and there are more important things in life to me than tossing 18$ to a site I frequent.

Now, that's to say, I fully intend on donating down the road, but do not have the discretionary funds atm.

Can never understand people whining when they get free stuff....

I understand that some people just cannot afford even the $18 per year and that is why Ian is keeping the site free for those who cannot donate.

What I don't understand is someone calling people who have donated the "we're better than you crowd", when they are helping to support a site that does cost money to run.

Perhaps saying nothing makes one sound smarter than saying something.

PS. I cannot believe that all those that have not donated are in the situation that they cannot not afford to do so.

While I agree with those pointing out it's somewhat comical for those who don't pay for it to complain about service, it remains to be seen if donations for server resources is truly the solution to the problem. Numerous "fixes" haven't worked out for over a year (and through a couple of upgrades) now. Any time the board attracts more than several hundred visitors it begins to unravel.

I have a feeling the answer lies not in increasing the server capacity, or clearing another table, since we always seem to exceed capacity in peak demand periods, but rather to restrict the number of visitors during peak periods or at least restrict their access to game threads (or draft day threads). It's lurkers hitting refresh on top of the kids posting every two seconds like they're in chat that fries a server.

Is there any way the game thread could occur in the game thread archive as opposed to on the main board. And access to that area on game days be limited to logged in members with posting priviledges?

Guess that goes for several people in this thread huh?

Also, your sarcasm detector must be broken. Because the label of "we're better than you crowd" was a sarcastic remark to the responses the OP was getting. So that bolded comment really does apply to several people here.

And you're right, not everyone is in a position to not donate. Some just don't want to, and it was a simple question which didn't require the responses he got. Did it?

Exactly!!! i know ther are "blue people" on here that can afford to pay a measly $18 dollars.

I'm sorry but if $18 dollars a year, less than 5 cents per day is a hardship you probably shouldn't be on this site, you should be working another job.

Or maybe there should be $5, $10 and $18 dollar memberships. You get more services, the more you pay the more you get. If you don't pay you just get to post no video arcade etc.

Probably the best solution, and a pretty good description of the overall problem as well.

Re: Is this Board Going to Lock up During Every Game?

i have a friend who recently couldn't take a job because she didn't have the $75 deposit for her uniform. times are tough. let's not hassle folks who might feel that $18 is something they'd rather spend on their kids. and if they have the money and just don't want to help out, well, as my 90 yo mom would say, "that's between them and God." (the latter comment was a joke--just in case!)

That sucks. Could they not take the deposit out of her first check? :(

i'm not a techie, so i don't know if you're right, but what you say sure makes sense to me. sounds like a great idea!

fair question. she asked and they wouldn't give her an advance until she was there six months.

come on guy. that's rubbing salt in some pretty sore wounds. a lot of folks can't find jobs in this economy and this board might be a place they come for a few minutes of distraction.
