Re: Plaxico Pleads Guilty

Wow. Two years for accidentally shooting himself. What crap luck this guy has. At his age, we very well may have seen the last of Burress unless he cops some sort of plea bargain that reduces the amount of time he has to do.

The vengeful fury of the hoodie. Look out Tyree and Eli.

Schadenfreude (pronounced /ˈʃɑːdənfrɔɪdə/, German pronunciation: [ˈʃaːdənˌfʁɔʏ̯də])

Pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others.

I'm quite sure that the NYPD has arrested many a gun toten drug dealers who have gotten a better plea bargin than this one.

I thought it was two years for carrying a unregistered handgun and discharging it in a public place. He is actually very lucky. That bullet could just as easily gone through someone's head as his leg. He is very, very fortunate IMO.

Crap luck would be having a guy dart out in front of your car after you've been drinking. Had Stallworth been arrested BEFORE the accident for a simple DUI and been given an eight game suspension, we'd be saying what crap luck to get an 8 game suspension just for going out for breakfast after drinking that night.

I say again, WHY?? couldn't this happen 3 years ago :(, just painful to forget. Oh well, bring on 09.

Re: Plaxico Pleads Guilty

So wait, Burress shoots himself and gets 2 years. Stallworth kills a guy and gets less than a month?

Hey, stop confusing posters with the facts. ;)

To answer your simplistic question simply, yes.

Glad that's settled.

Rossmci90 beat me to the punch. Stallworth killed another person and got 30 days. Burress shot himself and got two years. I'm no expert, but I'd say that Burress has the worse luck of the two.

OT Burress: Two Years in Plea Deal

ABC News in New York is reporting that Plaxico Burress has pleaded guilty and accepted a two year sentence. He could have received 3 1/2 to 15 at trial, where the facts would not have been in dispute after his Grand Jury testimony. He may start to serve his sentence as early as next month.

Sorry, please merge this. I missed the other thread. My apologies.

Re: Plaxico Pleads Guilty

I'd say he deserves the two years. He could've gotten the Darwin Award, though. He was carrying illegally in NYC, which, is pretty much a given for most anyone, considering their laws, but I digress.

To top it off, he was carrying it without a holster, in the waistband of SWEATPANTS. He's lucky he grazed his leg. He might've shot his johnson off. One might be forgiven for asking Plaxico why the safety wasn't engaged, and why it wasn't in a holster, since he'd had a CC permit and obviously had had instruction on the safe handling of a weapon prior to getting the permit.

His friend lied to police about the whole event.

Plaxico wasn't forthcoming with the cops either.

Had everyone involved simply 'fessed up, I doubt seriously he would've gotten two years. More likely a couple months, if that, a serious fine, and a ton of community service.

When you lie to the police, it's awfully hard to ask for leniency later on.

John Wayne, said it best: "Life is tough. It's even more tough when you're stupid."

two years is the plea bargain. he faced 3 1/2 minimum (max 15) if found guilty at trial, which was highly likely since he evidently acknowledged the facts of the case during his Grand Jury testimony.

I live in Manhattan. I have no problem with this outcome. New York's gun laws are no secret. If you carry an illegally concealed weapon in the city and discharge it, it's 3 1/2 to 15 years on conviction. If the facts of the case are shaky, the DA might cut a sweeter deal than Burress got, rather than risk losing at trial. If the facts are not in dispute, most still go to trial, don't take the stand and hope their attorney can throw enough smoke to get a Jury to nullify. Few testify to the facts before a Grand Jury, as did Plaxico, making conviction almost certain.

espn said that the orignal deal was 3 months jail, a litttle probation, and 1500 hours community service. But Cheddar burres didnt want that deal because he didnt want any jail time...guess he mad a bad call.
