I can't believe it... but even Felgers show is better than the Big Show. And it pains me to say that... trust me.

WEEI in comparison, sound like a bunch of stale old pretentious blowhards.

The only problem I have with Felger is he CONSTANTLY plays devil's advocate.

I don't mind being impartial....but he always seems to want to be a contrarian.

One thing he's doing is spitting daily venom about LOMO. Annoying.

But I agree...better than listening to guys fighting to talk over each other.

That sure is a low bar to clear.

I can't say that I agree with any of the three assertions made by the O.P.

I can't listen to that morning show. I've tried on my way to work, but it has been hard.

I don't listen to them either, but those guys on 98.7 aren't much better.

The lesser of two evils I guess. Unfortunately im so addicted to sports.. I cant help but listen.

I listened yesterday morning on my way to Boston ... horrible amateur radio ... so far anyways. it was like 2 guys making a sports show from their frat room.

Felger ???

Gresch???

Sheesh where's Kordishi and Jersey Red?

I actually like 98.5 (no duh since my other posts in other threads). They have been better and worse than WEEI at times. I like that they mix it up more than WEEI and talk a lot more football (Patriots football).

Here are my general thoughts:

  • I haven't fallen in love with Toucher & Rich. It seems they talk sports more because they have to than they want to. At least they don't talk politics. Maybe they will get better in time when they talk sports more.
  • I think the DA Show at night has been the break out on the station. The guy is knowledgable and is neither a homer or a contrarian. His interviews of beats writers seem to get more meat than other interviewers on any of the stations. I hope they move him to afternoons (pair him with Felger and move Mazz to nights).
  • I have liked Tanguay and Zo. Zo knows football better than almost everyone on WEEI. Both guys are actually decent at talking Sox.
  • Felger and Mazz has been up and down. Sometimes they have been excellent and the antithesis of their reputations. Other times, they haven't like when Felger went overboard on basing Favre on Tuesday. I like they will not let the "celebrity" moron callers on their show (Steve from Fall River, Dakota from Braintree, John from Medford).

Great analogy! None of them are trained radio professionals.....like.....Pete Sheppard.

Toucher and Rich didn't do sports until they moved to 98.5. I question moving non-sports guys to a sports radio station, but they have a following. I will give them a few months to get used to talking sports before I totally give up on them, but they aren't good.

Felger has been ok to good so far.

Gresh is only on the Patriots broadcasts and that hasn't changed from when the games were on WBCN. He doesn't appear on any of the regular shows. I don't know how people keep on bringing up Gresch since he is only on the channel because they didn't change the Pre and Post game shows at all in the moves.

That's what they have always been...frat boy radio. Pranks, rude and obnoxious humor, insults about each other and everyone they don't like. They are going after the key demographic: young people. And their take on sports is from a different perspective than everyone else on sports radio: they are fans so it's talk from the fans perspective.

Well ... I have news for them. Many young guys in their 20's are up rather late at night. I could be wrong but most of their demographic is sleeping when they are on.

As far as me liking them ... well I just turned 50 so I guess I'm missing it. :idontgetit::confused2::confused3:

They talked sports since they first came to Boston. They are fans talking sports and not sports reporters, commentators, or athletes so their talk won't be in depth or give you anything you didn't already know or a new perspective.

I admit I didn't listen to them on WBCN, but I thought they weren't sports focused, but did talk some sports from time to time.

They bring in ratings...that's all they need.

They never were...they had a dedicated sports segment where they talked about the game(s) from the day or night before and talked about the local and major sports headlines. They also had a sports related comedy bit with the "drunken recap" but normally just typical comedy bits and talk.

I can't stand EEI.

Today a guy called in talking about how silly it was for the pitching coach to try to dramatically change Dice-K's approach, the pitcher who was an MLB 18-game winner and sub-3 era guy the year before (not to mention a two-time WBC MVP), and all the EEI guys could do was go way off topic and make fun of the caller ad hominem.
