Rex Ryan talks Patriots and BB AGAIN

I heard him talk about his team on Sirius NFL radio a few weeks back and by the way he spoke, every player on his team including the back ups are going to the Pro Bowl. The way he talked about Gholston, you would think he was the reincarnation of LT. The guy is talking up his team so much that if they hit some adversity, the walls could come crashing in. There is a difference between swagger and overconfidence.

I did notice that! He's obviously looking to build confidence in his players but when things don't go right where does he go with it from there?

"When I said that about Belichick ("I'm not here to kiss his rings."), I'm just letting him know I'm not intimidated by him," said Ryan at his noon press conference. "He has the same position as I have. We're both head coaches in this league. He just happens to have a helluva lot of Super Bowl rings and I don't have a win. I understand that.

Translation: "The Jest were the only team dumb enough to offer me a head coaching job. I'm a nut just like my dad, Buddy, who sucked at being a head coach. And I crap my pants every time I think of going againts a Bill Belichick team"

i wonder why ozzie newsome never hired this guy..

his assistants better be careful. his father clocked kevin gilbride.

but in all honesty, i don't see what he said that was wrong. if I were him, I would say the same thing. The jets have been intimidated by the pats for years now. they need someone there with that kind of mentality.

Well, Ryan will have to work hard to beat Tom Cable's right hook in Oakland. He already put an assistant in the hospital. Ryan has a high bar to overcome.

Re: Rex Ryan verbally attacks Patriots and BB AGAIN

I agree, he's just defending his past comments and actually did a good job explaining where he's coming from. Showed respect towards Belichick but said trying to tiptoe into the game means your gonna lose !

I read his remarks as taunting. Since it's well-know that BB uses the bulletin board and disrespect from other teams (real or manufactured) to motivate his players, when Ryan says "If that's where you're going to draw motivation from, hell, we're probably going to kick your ass," I can't read that any as anything other than being in Belichick's face and the Pats' face.

Ryan is too much. And, he should be very concerned that Cimini (a hard nosed NY sports beat reporter, who's been covering the Jets for a while) baited him into saying what he said. The New York media loves this guy, because he means headlines all over the place, whether or not they help the Jets. I can't wait to turn to the back page when I pick the paper off my doorstep in the morning these days.

LOL. I think your translation is spot on.

What's the guy supposed to say? He and his team sucks! While some might argue that he shouldn't fixate on the Patriots or BB, we are the 1000 lb gorilla in the room. The media isn't going to let him pretend that getting by us isn't a big issue.

Re: Rex Ryan verbally attacks Patriots and BB AGAIN

I just read the article, and I don't see where Rex Ryan verbally attacks anybody.

Agreed. Admittedly he should have said nothing, but considering that it's a given that he's going to open his mouth and say something, that was pretty reasonable.

BINGO!

The NY media will be using all sorts of interesting chum to bait Rex on.

Here Rex! Here Rex! Come and answer the question! That's a Good coach!

Talk about a blind man swimming in the shark tank...

"He's got the same position I have. We're both head coaches in this league. He just happens to have a hell of a lot more Super Bowl wins"
Yeah, and Monty Beisel and Lawrence Taylor were both linebackers. Taylor just happened to have more sacks.

Absolutely right, and...what's more:

"...so, instead of focusing on the things that might help me beat Belichick, I'm going to make like my dad and wreck the culture on this team by fostering factions and infighting in the clubhouse...that way I can blame it all on my players and Assistants when I get fired."

I hope we hang 50+ on that fat slob and his preseason championship defense. C'mon, Rex. Let's see how good you do without Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Terrell Suggs to cover your ass.

***** UPDATED TITLE OF THREAD ******* Not so much of a verbal attack but it's clear the Patriots are heavy on that dudes mind.

The Pats are the class of that division and the Gold-standard in the NFL...he is trying to get his team to reach the point where they can look the Pats in the eye and not blink. That does not mean they won't get beaten by 3 TDs.
I think they'll approach us the same way we approached the Rams in the SB. I expect the results to be markedly different.

Ryan is cut from the same cloth as his old man.

A self promoting wind bag who believes even bad publicity is better than no publicity at all.

Thanks, I was going to document what an overrated douche Buddy was, but I'll just agree with you.

I think he's doing a brilliant thing...got attention away from his players, the suspension of Ellis, and the loss to the hapless Rams while also taking cheap snipes at BB and the Patriots.

Heat will fall on him, his players get a walk for the next few days.

Yup... Karma is a fickle lady. When she presents her bill, it's usually at the worst possible time, and for far more than you thought you owed.
