For those who have seen Nunn in camp

Sounds like he has hands but how is his speed and quickness? What WR spot is he best suited for? What are his strengths and weaknesses as a player?

Any chance he'll unseat a vet (Lewis?) for a roster spot?

I think his strength is definitely his hands. As far as speed and quickness he is a little of both but no welker or galloway as far as straight line speed (Galloway) or change of direction (Welker). He seems to have good leaping ability which is one of the reasons he makes nice catches in camp or at least a few that I have noticed.

as far as making the squad I would consider it a long shot but not out of the question. I think he has done everything he can thus far and if he continued too he would make the coaches think but in the end I would think it would take a big failure from one of the Vets brought in.

Nunn is well-suited for the Practice Squad. While it possible that Nunn could make the team instead of Galloway, I don't see it.

Nunn has Edelman blocking his path to the roster, not Lewis. Lewis is a top special teamer.

I'm trying to grasp at the possibility that the Pats braintrust values Nunn's upside enough that they'd not risk subjecting him to the waiver wire process thereby keeping him strictly as a 5th WR (behind Moss, Welker, Galloway and Edelman?), knowing that Nunn's not going to contribute much, if any, on ST's?

Well, based on preseason game one and the kid's unprepossessing history, I'd say he'll clear waivers and can be signed to the PSquad - probably the best thing for him, he'll continue to develop and be ready when Galloway goes on IR.

I actually disagree with this. Nunn IMO is an outside WR - not a slot guy. Edelman is a Welker clone - he'd get killed outside. Nunn reminds me a lot of Jabar Gaffney. Not that big or fast, but smooth with a great feel for the game.

However, Lewis has a leg up do to his ST contributions. IMO if BB really likes him they'll throw extra $ at him to keep him stashed on the PS for a year.

On my rosters of the past few years, I have always had only FOUR wide receivers. Anyone else labeled a WR is there to play special teams. It is rare that the #5 receiver has a half dozen catches a year. You can verify this by checking 2007 and 2008 stats.

As far as 2009, my wide receivers are Moss, Welker, Galloway and Edelman. I don't expect many catches from the special teamers (Lewis and Aiken) although there are equipped to step in if needed. This year I expect Faulk and Baker to contribute more as receivers than our #4 receiver, certainly more than the #5.

So, to me, if Nunn is to make the team. He needs to replace Galloway or Edelman, with Edelman being the more likely target to beat out. For me, Nunn is very unlikely to beat out either of the top special teams labeled as a WR. Ventrone might do that (unlikely) or the position could move to the defense where Jones or Ciurciu or Slater might take the spot. Nunn isn't in that competition.

Unless he plays in each of the next 3 games better than Edelman did against the Eagles, Nunn has a spot on the practice squad. He definitely looked no better than a practice squad player when he was returning kicks.

I don't see Nunn making the team. On the other hand, I could take a 15 year old Pomeranian and amputate two of its legs, and it might still have a chance to crack the Chiefs' wide receiver corps, so any receiver cut by the Patriots could well have a job in the league come week one.

IR doesn't help a marginal player at all. They rarely recover to become starters or even major contributers. If we want Nunn to develop, we need to have him on the Practice Squad. If Nunn isn't available, we'll develop someone else on our Practice Squad.

Nunn returned three KOs, with varying success predicated on the blocking and the weak leg Akers found near the end of the game. I'd like to see more before passing judgement. Nunn was targeted twice in the passing game by Walter, both hot reads, one Walter missed and the second was a sweet diving catch. He didn't hurt himself and he didn't make himself indispensable to another NFL club. He's got the rest of preseason to play himself on or off the PSquad.
