Jamie Dukes: Brady 5th toughest, but best player in the league

5. Tom Brady (QB, Patriots) – This list is based on physical toughness and there are several players who arguably deserve this spot (Brian Dawkins comes to mind). I put Tom Terrific on this list because behind those baby blue eyes is the heart of a killer. There is something about Brady that wants to crush his opponent. This is the distinction I draw between him and the second best player in the league, Peyton Manning. Manning is a perfectionist who will do whatever it takes to win. But there is something about Brady that says, if he could play LB, he would to help the team win.

I agree with Colombo being #1. That guy is a bad ass. I would love to see him in a Pats uniform. Not only is he a mauler, but he's also aggressive. I've seen him get into a few fights, the most recent being against the Bucs last year when I saw him toss a LB around like a rag doll. Can't remember exactly who it was, unfortunately.

As for Tommy Boy, he's the only QB I've seen in recent years that has cursed out a couple of safeties. He's intense and does belong on that list himself.

He's definately the toughest QB. I've seen him take the nastiest hits, and I've seen him block for his teammates. He always get back up (except last year obviously) and you don't know that there's something wrong until after the season is over...unlike someone like Ben "Worthless Hotdog" Roethlisberger, who will make sure you know he had xrays.

He was round-a-bout. I'm not, Manning is a ****, a Dome **** with tons of offensive talent laid at his feet, and what's he done but throw up a lot of fancy numbers and one ring.

Indy is close to done, and I expect two .500 or worse finishes in '09, '10, '11, '12, where will Manning be then? Getting driven over again and again as the expensive talent on that team ages.

Heh, heh. Better tone that one down. When "shutter" is used as an intransitive verb it means to "close down" or stop normal operating. So, suggesting that O linemen react that way to whomever the OP was citing is actually a correct, if arcane, use of the word. (Two quick points: one, I am clearly joking with you and two, I think this means it's time for the regular season to start.)

I often think of Dukes as nothing more than a TV talking head with a huge bias toward Atlanta.

But is he saying that Brady wants to win more/is prepared to do more to win than Payton? That is a strong statement indeed!

For QBs, Phillip Rivers deserves to be on the list. He played with a torn ACL...and he played well.
