to wear number 11 since we traded Bledsoe?

I'm watching Thursday night's game right now on NFLN, Edelman caught a pass for a couple yards late in the second, and suddenly I realize he's wearing 11. My first thought is it looks weird seeing that number on someone else... but it's been seven years, hasn't anyone else used it since?

Pretty sure he is.....break out the Drews out of the closet and get em altered:D thought you should still wear Drew with pride

Nobody on either the training camp rosters or the final rosters wearing #11 since 2001...

First Nomar's #5 is given out on the Red Sox after four and a half years, now Bledsoe's #11.

I'm not a big fan of retiring numbers. It's one of the few things that right about the Raiders these days.

I don't see a problem with it, as long as it's done for the greatest of exceptions. Can you ever imagine seeing another Bears player wearing #34 after Walter Payton did? Another #23 for the Bulls after Michael Jordan?

The Celtics had many great players but they were too liberal in retiring jersey numbers.

I think it was Kraft the Younger I heard talking about this. The team is not going to retire the numbers of any Patriot that doesn't get into the NFL Hall Of Fame. Patriots that fall short of that mark, but are 'great' Patriots, will be in the Patriots Hall, and that will be how they get honored.

I'm not one to focus on numbers, so I don't know what's available and what isn't, and I'm not sure if I heard him right, but it may be that some numbers previously 'retired' could come back into play.

I hadn't heard about that, but it sounds like a good idea. The Pats have retired a LOT of numbers over the years, and I'm not saying those guys didn't deserve it, I just think they got too carried away. (Except, of course, for Gino. ;) )

I think it's a good idea, too. However, I must say it's a bit "weird" for me see another Patriot wearing the #11...

FWIW, the league has discouraged retiring of numbers, except in special cases, like, you know:

But it is different in basketball, how many people are on the team, 12? So in theory there are 90 numbers that could be retired and still dress a team. (0 and 00 are legit numbers in b-ball right?)

Football? Well the most numbers needed are during TC at 80, so in theory you could retire 20 numbers, but then you run into the problems with position specific numbers.
