There has never really been a problem with having Tully... there was a problem with keeping Tully at SF dollars. He'll be a good, solid guy who gets a sack every once in a while and who contributes on ST.

Here's the problem with fans & STs... no one seems to put much importance on them until something goes wrong. While everything is going decent, you hear Slater this, Woods that, TBC blah blah blah...

TBC is a solid guy to have so long as he doesn't have to play full-time. His special teams play alone is probably enough to merit a roster spot, but he also provides a decent edge rush in packages in which BB moves Thomas inside.

I'm glad he's back- as others have stated he can put some pressure on the QB as a situational guy and is a solid STer.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Larry Izzo. But TBC 2009 at vet minimum is a HUGE upgrade over Larry Izzo 2008 well-paid.

The Pats really improved with that switch.

Very well put - framing it exactly that way does indeed say it all.

We all loved Izzo, but the man coudl not help on "D" at all. TBC will get his sacks and hopefully not get run over too often.

I think our biggest worry with our LB's as a group is pass coverage.

TBC was always a good pass rusher. I though he was a steal as a 7th round pick. His issues seem to be against the run, but I think we would do well to focus more on pass rush than run D. Not that we shouldn't be better in both, but of the two, pass rush is more important.

I'm watching the replay of the game and TBC just blew by Jason Peters on that sack. Peters got a slight push on him but not much. It's good to see that; we need it.

TBC showed some nice speed along the edge against the Eagles. In fact, I don't think we saw a single sack in 2008 where a LB rushes right around the tackle for the QB. As long as he sticks to rushing the passer and not trying to stop the run, he should have a decent season.

I think it is semantics...But IMO just because a player puts his hand down doesn't make him a DE. Just use AD as an example he is certainly one of nickle and dime rushers and you will see his hand down plenty but he is definitely a LB. In Tullys case he ideally wont do much other than rush so he might not pick the hand up much but if injuries started mounting at OLB I bet he would pick up the hand conversely if injuries started at DE I can't picture him keeping his hand down and replacing DE on rushing downs.

i have never been a fan of Tully's but last night he definitely looked skinnier and more fit than the last time he was hear. Did anyone else think he looked less pudgey than before?

TBC looked very comfortable against the Eagles, and on his sack made Peters very ordinary (i know he has been injured for a bit), and might have a great successful season as a situational pass rusher.
