Will Edelman become a Bam Childress preseason star who gets cut or a Wes Welker Jr.?

Childress reminds me more of Slater.

Edleman has electric kick return abilities, as we just saw. For that reason alone he's a keeper. Wes not having to return punts means that he'll be fresher for the passing game. Edelman is at least our #4 WR and #1 punt returner. I don't think Childress was ever as talented or quick as Edelman. Did Childress ever show any KR abilities?

Edelman will be lucky to make the team as a regular. Belichick won't throw him to the wolves until he builds up more muscle. right now he looks like he'll be creamed if he's popped running over the middle. Could he get right up like Welker ... I doubt it ... perhaps in a year or two but his body is nowhere near NFL full season ready yet. Take 1 look at Welker's upper body vs Edelman ... it's no contest in terms of muscle mass. Welker's neck is already several sizes bigger than Edelman's.

The kid is a keeper if Welker get's injured ... nothing more just yet.

His practices have been good...BUT

We've only seen one game from him.

It's all relative to all the other roster spots in ref. to him making the team.
I liked how he played...BUT

great post

What this kid has shown to date, including as a starter against the Eagles in preseason, is beyond impressive. Imagine what he could develop into in a year or two at this level with these coaches and that work ethic and attitude. A backup Welker alone is worth it's weight in gold, and if this kid carries a good deal of the load in the PR game, all the better. Add to that his capacity to fill the wildcat void on the scout team or in occasional game situations and I don't see how he doesn't make this roster. He won't make it to a PS unless he falls apart in the next two weeks. It's not just that he can do what Welker does (albeit at a less developed level), it's that he exudes that same run through a wall mentality while exhibiting a similar capacity to think on his feet (and on the move). Having this kid here could add a year or two to the backend of Wes' career. Pioli or McDaniels would be all over this kid.

Julian is better than Bam but i liked Bam. He was Cassel's go to guy in the preseason. If i remember correctly Cassel had a high qb rating that preseason when Bam shined. Bam tried hard to make this team. Bam even played db but when he was activated off the ps he obviously wasn't a fav target for Brady. I think Julian will make the 53 and i want to see more of Terrance Nunn.

One last thing, everyone including Bam is better than Slater. As fast as Slater is, he struggles to get far in kr and is not going to beat anyone out as a reciever of db. The only thing Slater has going is he is a good blocker and gunner. And Wilhite showed last year that he is a better gunner and last night Butler got down field pretty quick.

That was enough to keep Willie Andrews around before he went off the deep end. . . .

Yeah, Wes' traps are freakishly big.

Those were the times when we could waste roster spots. We are extremely deep with talent this year and i think that will trickle down to special teams.

This team is more talented, but I'm not sure that those teams had the ability to "waste roster spots." If Slater makes this team, he will have earned it, just as Willie Andrews earned it himself. I don't think that they consider special teams a luxury; they value it more than the fans do.

This guy is pretty special, IMO. Let's remember that he is a rookie who has never played WR before and now BB already thinks enough of him that he is catch passes from TB in preseason game 1.

I know that this clip was already linked after the draft but it demonstrates Edelman's "it" factor. Unless you want to laugh again at the stiffest, most awkward interviewer ever, skip to 2:34 to check out an incredible play....then pay attention to the most embarrassing announcer man crush squeal of all time at 2:51.

More "it" video to get you pumped for what may be on the horizon (if you can get past the horrible quality video):

Some pretty good clips right there. In the first clip, the one you alluded to at 2:35, after he decides to run and gets past that first defensive lineman, he completely snaps the second guys ankles in half and explodes. He has the look of a punt return demon this year. Add a true return weapon, which they have not had during the Brady/Belichick era, and this team will not be kept under 28 points.

Re: Will Edelman become a Bam Childress preseason star who gets cut or a Wes Welker J

That's what I was wondering too if someone can answer. I don't even remember much about Bam. Did he have a special teams TD also? I highly doubt he was ever as impressive as Edelman was last night or I doubt he would have been cut, especially in 2006 when we had next to nothing at wideout.

Everyone keeps centering on that PR TD return (on tired Eagle coverage rekicking a punt after a penalty) but it was the first play of the ballgame that REALLY impressed me about him. That was a bigtime stick.

I disagree with the #4 WR thing. Let's all calm down - - if Lewis got the playing time Edelman got, HE would have had 3-5 catches, etc. The coaching staff decided to test the kid HEAVILY off the bat (they practically made him sell popcorn in the stands during commercials and do stadium public address announcements).

Thursday night didn't prove to me that Galloway and Lewis lost their positions to Edelman at all. Right now, I'm very intrigued and would pencil him in at #5 WR. That being said, there are more PS games ahead and let's see how this all shakes out. In the meantime, the Pats are in great position to have so many tough decisons.
