Big popup has been moved to #7 in the order. He has hit a 2 run homer so far tonight. I think he should stay as the #7 hitter for the rest of the season. Given that he cannot really be expected to hit doubles anymore ... they are rare ... what does he have to offer other than the occaisonal HR. It's the only hit he can make that the shift does not affect.

To be fair here ... Ortiz was hitting great when he occaisonaly hitting to the opposite field. Since his wrist injury he does not even try to do that anymore. Yeah perhaps it's his age and his bat is a tad slower at times. But more than anything IMO - his inability to even try to go opposite field has cost him .05 percentage points in his average. So #7 is where he should stay for the good of the team.

While i respect what he did for the Sox and winning to WS, and don't think he should be called Big Sloppy. If this was 1975 or '80 he'd be gone imo. He's making to much money to sit or let go.

You don't think they'll let him go next year?

Wow ... great 9th inning rally for the Sox. Clay pinchruns for Varitech - gets thrown out at home on a great play by Murphy. Victor just doubles in 2 ... 5-4 Sox.:D:D:D

6-4 now as I type this ... I better not post until they're done scoring.

Can you say rally thread?

JD Drew goes deep 8-4 Sox.

Wasn't that a beautiful 9th?! I was gonna go to bed too! LOL!:singing:

Re: Big Popup Moved to #7 in the Order.

I'm in shock. Could this be the inning against quality opposition that fires up the Sox hitters?

Ortiz got a double tonight ... I hope he doesn't read this thread.:blush::blush:

Back to back strikeouts for Paps! SOX WIN!!!

Kathryn Tappen is on, gotta go take care of business! :D

About time the sox won

Wow, was leaving a concert and saw this game on at the bar with us down 4-2 in the 8th.

Come back to see they won 9-4, awesome. Rays lose their 5th in a row as well.

Thats rediculous. He's makign 12M, Lugo was making 9M. If lugo can be let go, so can he.

He's still here because the front office believes the potential to be an elite hitter is still there. If they thought he was deadwood, his contract wouldn't matter at all, because its all guaranteed, so its sunk cost.

Anyone else noticed the Sox appearing to just trying to put bat to ball and get men on base rather than smash everything out of the park all the time the past few games?

I've noticed and it has been working
