Thoughts on tonight's winners and losers?

Winners:
1. Brady - what can I say? He played well and stayed safe. That works for me.
2. Chris Baker - he annoyed me when with the Jets because he always seemed to play well against the Patriots. I'm glad he's on our side and expect him to be the most productive TE on our roster this year. 40 receptions, 500 Yards, 7 TDs.
3. Edelman - Kid had a great start. As has been mentioned on this board throughout the night, he could turn into Welker v2. Caught everything thrown in his direction and had a huge return. Can't wait to see more from him.

Losers:
1. Maroney - The only running back that can't find a hole. The good news is that when his career is over he'll excel on Dancing with the Stars! I just wish he'd stop preparing for that role while on the Patriots.
2. Eric Alexander - Not that I had high hopes for him, but he was awful tonight. I can't remember him actually diving and hitting anyone ... one miss after another!
3. Nunn? - There's been a lot of positive camp notes/press about this guy. I was excited to see what he brought to the team. The only impression I took from tonight's game is a negative one.

Side note: Thank god football is back! 4 hour long, slow played baseball games bug the hell out of me.

nunn was thrown to twice and the first one he made a diving catch for a first down and the other walter underthrew him i think he did fine

Winners:

Randy Moss- If there was ever any doubt about his age, it's time to put those doubts aside

Tom Brady- No injury = automatic winner tonight. He looked good. I thought he was a little hesitant compared to usual (to be expected), but in time he will clearly be himself again

Julian Edelman- Probably clinched a spot on the roster. I swear if he'd been wearing a #83 jersey I would have been fooled

Patrick Chung- I haven't been as excited about a player in a long time. You can see his high energy and he's around almost every play. I really hope he is a starter sooner than later. He looked poised and confident, and still showed his skillset while playing with the overmatched second/third stringers.

Losers:

Eric Alexander: Agreed, he needs to go. There are too many talented players on this team that can contribute. He is just not very good, period.

Laurence Maroney: I'm sick of the excuses. He's a decent running back but let's stop pretending he may live up to his expectations.

LOL .. I was struggling to find a 3rd "loser". I'm sure he did fine, but the kick off that he sort of botched stood out in my mind. It was also my belief that he and Edelman were fighting for the same roster spot. If I'm right .. Nunn certainly wasn't the winner tonight.

Winners:
Patrick Chung- I haven't been as excited about a player in a long time. You can see his high energy and he's around almost every play. I really hope he is a starter sooner than later. He looked poised and confident, and still showed his skillset while playing with the overmatched second/third stringers.

Quite a refreshing kid isn't he, the high energy, play making ability is so far above and beyond what we'll ever see out of James Sanders.

James, you are a role player, I am tired of seeing you arrive late after a catch has already been made and the damage done. I cannot remember you ever, ever being around the football until the damage has been done and you make the tackle simply because all you concentrate on is keeping everything in front of you. We need more than that, that's why Chung will take your snaps as each game progresses.

Great point on Moss, Ice. Looks as smooth as ever. It appears effortless out there, which is great except on Brady's INT. A little more effort would have been appreciated there. Tackle the guy for F sake

Another guy in the secondary I should have mentioned was Merriweather. I thought he played well tonight. Everytime he hit someone, one person ended up hitting the ground hard. It wasn't Merriweather.

I'd have to add Wilhite as having a good outing. He was sticking with his man in coverage and made some nice tackles.
Darius Butler made a couple of nice plays. I think this kid will be good.
And let's give props to the offensive line. Except for the QB sneak, I don't think the Eagles touched him all day.

Is Fred Taylor injured? I assume he didn't make the trip. I'm not concerned, but I was excited to see what he has left in the tank.

Wilhite. Impressive kid.

Chung. He just has winner written all over him. Quick, great motor, nice hitter...all-around solid. He gives me goosebumps.

Baker. Glad he's a Patriot

Brady. Pretty much a given

Edelman. Holy goodness.

Losers.

Galloway. Rough night.

Alexander. Yeah...

Maroney. I like Maroney. I always have. Don't get the hatred for the kid. Not the greatest start though.

I'll have to regretfully nominate Terrence Wheatley. He seemed to be repeatedly out of position letting plays go past him. There's no question that Wilhite has fully leapfrogged him at this point.

Couldn't agree more. It's early...but it's really shaping up to be a heck of a draft class.

Man - I think this team is going to be a nightmare for other teams to face... I saw so much to drive opposing OCs and DCs crazy tonight.

Edelman, Chung, multiple TE sets with TEs that can PLAY!

Oh and they've still got the boring old standard offerings of Moss, Welker, Seymour... geeze it goes on and on.

One shouldn't feel overly emboldened after one pre-season game but DAMN - this team can really do some damage this year!

i noticed wheatley made a couple of bad plays along with butler on that pass interfearence when the pass was probably going out of bounds but other than that a pretty solid night good to see a couple of sacks. did it seem tho that alot of our pass pressure was coming from inside tho?

I didn't really see a lot of losers, given that it was exhibition game 1. I'd say that Alexander was a loser, because he should be tackling better than that.

Agree with most of the above, so here are a few that we haven't mentioned:

How about Vollmer? He repeatedly pancaked his man at the line in run blocking, and showed good footwork in pass blocking. I love that he took reps exclusively at LT.

Guyton looked great, too. In the first quarter, it seemed like he was in on every tackle along with Mayo. Just what I wanted to see!

Crable had a good tackle on one of the returns; I forget which. He also made some nice tackles downfield, and seemed solid in coverage. I thought he did well for himself, considering he just started practicing again on Sunday.

I agree that Maroney's running game looks no different now than it did the day Clock Killin' Dillon left (love you man).

I didn't catch if he had any blocking assignments, and if so how well he played them. I do know the OL held up well enough to keep the Man upright and never too hurried.

I would say try to implement Maroney as a FB..but with 5 TE's on the roster that would be pretty redundant. (joke)

I thought that there were a terrific number of positives on display. I'm not willing to etch anything in stone until after game 3 of the preseason.

Heck of a game, though.

On an ancillary note, I hope that Philly knows what it's doing with Vick. McNabb might be a very good QB, but he's got a very fragile ego. This has disaster written all over it.
