Re: Donte in 2010...

Seems kind of harsh...what was the suspension for Leonard Little when he had a DUI manslaughter.

I don't want to understate the severity of the crime but thats for the courts...the NFL should be consistant with its suspensions.

Little got an 8 game suspension. But Goodell has made clear that he intends to be harsher than Tags was.

Re: Donte in 2010...

Stallworth lost the third string job to Gaffney by the end of the 2007 season. I think he was a disapointment here. I doubt he would be back especially three years later and missing a season of football. There will be better options next year without as much baggage.

EEI caller just mentionned Little... you on EEI right now dude ?

I would have rather seen it turned around and him spend a year in jail and 24 days suspension from the league - It fits the crime better :banned:

The SI piece (link below) mentions that he received a $4.5 million roster-signing bonus the night before the fatal incident. The salary he is forfeiting is given as $745,000.

Two questions for those who know these things better than I do: one, does he get to keep the bonus? two, if he does keep the bonus does it still count against the Browns' cap for the season? If it does count against the cap, he's passing his punishment on to his team and teammates, who now have to play without him and with a big cap hit that is returning nothing on the field.

One thing that people are forgetting when they complain about Stallworth getting off lightly, is that the victim in this case was partially responsible for his own demise. He illegally ran out into traffic trying to catch a bus. Sure Stallworth was drinking and deserves punishment, but the guy ran into traffic where he should not have been. Sad case for all involved. I think Goodell is being very heavy handed in his punishment. Little got 8 games and if that's the precedent, it should be consistent.

That was over 10 years ago, and Goodell has made it very very clear that he intends to be harsher than his predecessor. Goodell's setting his own precedent, and you can't say he didn't warn players.

not me I have plenty of time to be on here but I don't got hours to wait for a 30 sec convo with someone who knows less football than us on here.

Yeah, but he is always harping on remorse. A player can't get back in unless he acknowledges what he did.

Stallworth right from the get-go took responsibility, never shirked it.

The judge has a Power Pole tape of the victim running out into the road (it is sealed for the family's sake, but it still exists).

Had Stallworth chosen to fight, he likely could not have been convicted, or so the F+DA felt, hence the light sentence.

Had Stallworth fought the case in court and won, and only been charged with DUI, would he still get a year?

Goodell once again just wants to be the baddest guy on the block, and to wield his absolute power.

I'd like to see him gone.

+1000.

Stallworth's suspension is absolute bullsh!t. The victim also bears responsibility in this situation for running across a multi-lane highway in the dark.

Your personal safety begins with YOU!

Words just can't express the loathing I have for this scuzzball of a commissioner that the NFL is saddled with. He's like a terminal case of jack itch to this league. the sooner he's gone, the sooner the league can move forward on many different fronts.

No.

The accident is just one piece of it, he WAS driving drunk, and that right there would be enough to warrant a suspension (probably not a whole season). As far as the manslaughter, whatever may or may not have happened at a hypothetical trial, he pleaded guilty, so there are no more questions of fact or law to ponder. He admitted all necessary elements of the crime in open court.

And remorse is cheap, anyone can say they're sorry.

B.S.

All that's required for manslaughter is killing someone during the commission of an unlawful act--whatever this guy was doing in the street has NOTHING to do with it.

You're wrong, sorry. Florida's DUI manslaughter law doesn't work that way.

He pleaded guilty. What if's don't matter, a guilty plea is just like a conviction.

I understand what was written. I'm saying that it's irrelevant to talk about what might have been when he already pleaded guilty. The case is closed, he's a convicted killer, all that stuff about if he had gone to trial is a red herring. The NFL felt the need to suspend a convicted killer who was driving drunk by his own admission.

I don't think Stallworth is actually a bad guy and I really believe he's sorry, but actions have consequences. If I was arrested and convicted of anything, chances are I would be fired. A year off? He's getting off lightly.

If it's irrelevant, point that out to the person making the irrelevant claim, rather than someone who's just correcting his mistake in a response to it.
