According to this link, which also reports the loss of LT Herremans for at least the pre-season, Reid's going to play his starters for decent chunk of game time.

Herremans Out for Preseason? | Philadelphia Daily News | 08/12/2009

Reid said his starters will play about a quarter and a half Thursday night in the preseason opener against New England. Jason Peters will start at left tackle, Max Jean-Gilles at left guard, Jamaal Jackson at center, Nick Cole at right guard and Winston Justice at right tackle.

I wonder if we can expect similar PT for our starters? I thought Edwards went out WAY too early in the Bills Pre-Season game, I hope we see at least a quarter out of Brady.

I hope we see whatever playing time Coach thinks Brady needs in his first game back, if that's one play, one series, one quarter, one half, I don't care. But I do care that he's not out there one play longer than he needs to be in a meaningless game against a ferocious rush and D.

I'd love to see both 1st teams for atleast 1 quarter......... Having that said brady will be done after a few series and mcnabb will probably play the whole 1st quarter because he seems to call his own number at times

I know you're new to the game but in general if you have a legit franchise QB you approach the pre season as a series of warmups. First game he plays a couple of series depending on how well the first unit is executing. Then you want the backup to get a series with as many of the other #1's in before they too bow out. Week 2 your starters are in for most of the first half. Week 3 they come back after a half and play a series or two into the third quarter. Week 4 depending on how things are going most starters only have cameo appearances and the backup QB plays the bulk of the first half with the second string while the guys fighting for roster spots finish off the game.

It's not about winning, although you would always prefer to. It's about building execution and performance up to the point you are ready for week 1 of the season that counts.

There was really nothing for Buffalo to gain by leaving their QB in once their offense (TO) left the field. With Brady, as Lombardi noted last night, there is no way you leave him out there unless the entire first team - including an intact OL - remains on the field. They've been managing Neal in TC because he has a balky shoulder and they don't want to do anything that would upset the applecart of this OL prior to Brady getting re-established in the first few weeks of this regular season. If **** happens after that, you cope as you always have.

If Reid loses another starter or two people will be calling for his head. One reason he may leave Donovan in is he's already lost his backup for the rest of the pre season, at least. This will actually give Bill a good chance to try some things on defense though, so it's good for us.

Does anybody get the feeling this year at least from what we've heard teams wanna take preseason games serious than usual. This offseason we kept hearing of the pre-season games lessened due to more play time for games that don't matter thus risking injuries, but this 09 preaseason is going at full force. Hope all goes well with us, hope the injury bug repellent works and lets watch some Football

From what we know of Belichick, I bet the starters play one series, then he'll start rotating in backups, to see how the backups do against the Eagles' first-teamers.

I would like to see the 1st string units in for as little as possible. For example, I'd like to see Wheatley, Butler and Crable out there against Philly's first string offense.

From what we know of Belichick, I bet the starters play one series, then he'll start rotating in backups, to see how the backups do against the Eagles' first-teamers.

How much time the Eagles starters get isn't an indication of how long our's will get. I see Brady out there for a series. Two series at the most. The third preseason game is when he will get his substantial chunk of playing time.

When I first read the title my thought was good we get to see some of our second stringers VS their ones.

As long as it's not on the O-line. Was it Reiss or someone else who write that Belichick showed the team a video of last year's pre-season game vs Philly when they went down 24-3 early to motivate them? Would he have done that if the starters were only going to start one series. IF and this may relate to having so many sessions in full pads, he is trying to ramp them up early, would he only play them one series or at least a quarter or more???

Re: Reid: Eagles starters will play for "about a quarter-and-a-half" on Thursday Nigh

i am looking forward to seeing our 2nd stringers really. Imo there is no need to see Moss and Welker. I want to see the rest of the recievers with brady throwing to them so i can really judge them. Same thing with the tight ends. I don't need to see Watson drop some more balls. Watson is like Jacoby Ellsbury, he makes the easy catches hard(drops when hes wide open or fumbles it) and makes the hard catches easy like all of the diving endzone catches.

And i am hoping to see for the first time in a preseason game that our defense stays the same or even gets better once the 1st string leave. Can't wait to see Chung, Brace, etc. Last year in the preseason our 1st string defense was pathetic(preseason killed fernando). With all this 2-aday training and taking the preseason seriously, hopefully our team will be in midseason form by week 1.

As long as it's not on the O-line.

Aww, come on! Let Andrew Walter go against the #1 Philly defense behind a scrub line for nostalgia's sake. He'll think he's back home in Oakland.

It will be interesting to see whether O'Connell is the one who replaces Brady with most of the first stringers or Walter. It will be interesting to see what Walter could do with decent support up front and more than 1.2 seconds to throw.
Philly's O-line is banged up and there are reports that neither Andrews brother will play as well as about half dozen others......It might be enough to make McNabb puke....
