I hear about the defense, backup QB,RBs and so on in relation to TC reporting but little reports on what Baker,Smith,Thomas,Watson and DeVree are doing??

For those who have observed live practice,Are any of these guys sticking out as near locks for the position?

I think there is 0% chance we keep all 5 - Little chance we keep 4 on, and if we go with 6 WRs maybe we go down to as little as 2 guys at TE

I think its going to be 3 TEs,but going by whats happening in TC what 3 will it be?

Tom Brady.

I'll take a shot at it. Just a guess...

Pats keep (3) Baker, Smith, and Thomas.
DeVree goes to the PS if he's still eligible.
Watson gets traded for a 5th round pick.

Again, it's just my guess... it's not like I'm suggesting they trade Green or anything :confused2: :scared:

The next TE

Is Chris Baker still pancaking Pierre Woods?

Someone (I think it was Reiss) said he wasn't seeing much from Smith. I also read good things - blocking - from Thomas. DeVree was making catches, but not blocking anyone.

Maybe Baker, Watson, Thomas, Smith with DeVree on the outside looking in.

So far, Ben Watson is losing the battle by not competing.

This should be more of an opinion thread (i.e. - Who do you think will win the TC TE Battle?) with those who have attended weighing in and those who have not giving their opinion based on what they've seen from each guy. The only person who knows who is actually winning the battle is BB and, as far as I know, he doesn't post here.

Ok, I'll set up a poll thread.....

Here's a recent column on Smith: Smith starting to march in tune by Mark Farinella of the Attleboro Sun Chronicle

Alex Smith has been all over the field for the Patriots in their training camp, and as he said last week, it's a good thing he's finally figuring out what it all means.

"I feel a lot more comfortable," the former Buccaneers' tight end said. "When I first got here, my head was spinning a little bit. But I've been here for a couple of months now and it's all starting to slow down.

Smith, one of two new tight ends brought in to give Benjamin Watson and David Thomas some competition, has been setting up split wide, in motion and even as a blocking back in the backfield. Without a true fullback in camp and with goal-line insertion Mike Vrabel shipped off to Kansas City, the tight end position is becoming more prominent in the Patriots' offensive plans.

And, with Watson shelved for most of this camp for undisclosed reasons, both Smith and ex-Jet Chris Baker are being put through the paces every day.
