With a bunch of small moves, I decided to whip a roster guess in advance of the start of pre-season games tomorrow night. It was NOT easy. This year we will cut players who will end up starting elsewhere.

Post your best guesses and denigrate those of others ;) - It's always fun to look back.

Explanations below. Thanks MGTEICH for the template.

ST/WR (2) Aiken, Slater
ST/LB (1) Alexander

OFFENSE (24)
QB (3) Brady, Walter, O'Connell
RB (4) Taylor, Morris, Maroney, BJGE
WR (5) Moss, Welker, Galloway, Lewis, Edelman
TE (3) Thomas, Baker, Smith
OT (4) Light, Kaczur, LeVoir, Vollmer
OG/C (5) Mankins, Koppen, Neal, Hochstein, Ohrenberger

DEFENSE (23)
DL (6) Wilfork, Seymour, Warren, Wright, Brace, Green
OLB (4) Thomas, Woods, Burgess, Banta-Cain
ILB (4) Mayo, Bruschi, Guyton, Lenon
CB (5) Butler, Bodden, Springs, Wheatley, Wilhite
S (4) Meriweather, Sanders, Chung, McGowan

SPECIALISTS (3)
K (1) Gostkowski
P (1) Hanson
LS (1) Hodel

STARTING THE SEASON ON THE PUP LIST (2)
Tate, Crable

STARTING THE SEASON ON IR (1)
McKenzie

PS Priority (1)
Nunn

My surprise cuts were Faulk and Watson.

It might be sacrilege, but Faulk was pretty bad and getting outplayed by the other RB's when I was at TC. Might be good for the shadow roster, but would likely catch on elsewhere.

I'm a fan of Watson, but I have to be honest: Dave "Wendy" Thomas looks very good out there this year and I think he edges Watson, the experiment finally coming to an end.

Tough to let Ventrone go too. Really, the league should just let us keep 60 guys.

I also think we have the talent to replace Bruschi, but his leadership would be sorely missed. I have no doubt this year is his last, however.

Nunn actually looks very good out there and his ST play could edge Edelman for a spot, but Edelman would never make it through Waivers, imo.

Haha no.

Faulk had one of his best years in his career statistically last season and is one of the most important players on the offense. I think he's earned a couple bad days in training camp. There is 100% no way Kevin Faulk gets cut (especially for Green-Ellis), sorry.

I don't think he gets cut for Ben-Jarvus, I think Taylor takes his place on 3rd down.

Taylor has never had 50 catches in a season and has less catches over the last 4 years combined than Faulk had last year. He's never been utilized as a third down back.

Re: Post your current Roster projections.

Faulk isn't getting cut.

Re: Post your current Roster projections.

One or two days of training camp either good or bad is not a whole body of work.. what you and I see there, is not what Bill sees when he reviews the film at the end of the day.

I understand that. It's a roster projection by a fan. Where's yours?

Re: Post your current Roster projections.

That's a pretty amazing looking roster.

I think your projection is pretty close. BJGE is not being kept at the expense of Faulk. That's the only glaring issue as near as I can tell.

I don't think of it as BJGE for Kevin. He could very well have another amazing year, but a lot of the old blood is on its way out, that's all I'm saying. So I picked Faulk.

Still, this team is ridiculous on paper. Like how do you even choose the final 5-6 cuts? That's an excellent position to be in.

Re: Post your current Roster projections.

Your roster is fine, but we do not know if anyone will get "redshirted" as we have to still get through preseason... but Faulk will be a keeper.

When I was @ TC was amazed at the depth that we have added on both side of the ball.. we have beefed up so many areas TE, OL, DL, LB, CB, S, WR, RB.. just about every position... it is almost an embarassment of riches.

Also believe that there will be a lot of new wrinkles on Defense.. BB had a long off season, and idle minds...

Hahaha and we still have to wait WEEKS to see it. guh.

Re: Post your current Roster projections.

0% chance Faulk and Ventrone aren't on this team. Zero.

I agree we keep Faulk and they're entirely different players, but no need to shave statistics to make a point.

Taylor has three years with more than 45 catches, Faulk has four.

Both capable receivers, very different type runners.

Re: Post your current Roster projections.

Faulk isn't getting cut.

The reason Tom Brady got injured last year was that Kevin Faulk

was suspended last year for Game #1. Sammy Morris did not make

a real good block and Pollard got to Brady's knee.

Re: Post your current Roster projections.

JSn - I think its pre-mature to do this, but for the sake of the thread, I will.

My changes are in BOLD.

Here are my reasonings:

Ventrone - There are better players than him on the Roster and being cut.
Yates - Will only be a phone call away
McGowan - Unless he wows in coverage, I don't see him making the team over Williams, though, if it comes down to special teams play, McGowan might get the nod.
Thomas - I think he gets traded before TC is out.
Green - Freeing up 2.5-4.8 million in cash will help this team in more ways than one. Another person who is probably traded. But it all hinges on his Roster bonus.
Alexander - Is injured too often. Isn't even the best special teams LB on the team. That goes to Circui or Woods.
Connolly/Wendell - Ohrnberger is better than them and looks to be a longer term answer at guard.
Britt/O'Callaghan - Britt, imho, has only made the roster the last two years because of O'Callaghan being injured. O'Callaghan has a long injury past and he's suffered a lot of concussions..
Tyson DeVree -Will probably be on the Pats short list to call in case of an injury.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis - He was suitable when the Pats had the rash of injuries last year at RB. He'll not make it because of the numbers game.
Nathan Hodel - Veteran LS who is fighting for dear life for a roster spot against Ingram. It will be interesting to see who blinks first.
Herana Daze-Jones - Could push for the spot that I gave to Cirucui as he has been an exemplary Special Teams player in the past.
Rob Ninkovich - Will probably be a "shadow roster" player unless he beats out TBC....
Mike Richardson - The additions of Bodden, Springs, and Butler has put Richardson on the outside looking in. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see him picked up by KC or Denver. He's a good depth player.
Shun White - Will join Kettani and Barnes on the Reserve/Military list.
Steve Williams - Was a longshot to make the team to begin with.

Why do you think that Ventrone is a lock for this team?

DB, could you compare Smith and Thomas and why you chose Smith?
Thanks

Fair enough, but you are saying that Bill sees what you see and not what JSN sees. How do you know that you and Bill are on the right page? Did you predict Bill would get rid of Vrabel? Sign Walter because of what he saw with Gute?

All that said, I like Faulk as a third down blocker and I will think he will keep his job.

Good catch on the statistic.

Myself, I am wondering that if Taylor can block okay he might make Faulk expendable. Anyone know Faulk's salary off the top of their head?

Actually, Faulk got destroyed (embarrased) in the blocking drills on the day I visited, and Taylor had an incredible run of blocks. Just saying. I have nothing personally against Faulk, for the record. He was awesome last year.
