So much has happened since the last time I saw a thread like this that I decided to start one.

What will the 53 man roster look like?

3 QB - Brady, Walter, O'Conell
7 OL - Koppen, Mankins, Light, Neal, Kaczur, Vollmer, Hochstein
4 TE - Watson, Smith, Baker, Thomas
5 RB - Moroney, Morris, Taylor, Faulk, BJGE
6 WR - Moss, Welker, Galloway, Lewis, Edelman, Aiken

Offense 25

7 DL - Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Brace, Wright, Smith, Green
4 ILB - Bruschi, Mayo, Guyton, Lennon
4 OLB - Burgess, AD, Woods, Crable
5 S - Merriweather, Sanders, Chung, McGowan, Williams
5 DB - Springs, Bodden, Weatley, Wilhite, Butler

Defense 25

3 ST - Gostkowski, Hanson, Ingram

I think the odds of this being wrong are probably 100%, but I didn't post this to try to be right. Rather, as an excersise to see what names might drop off the 53. It looks to me that the depth this year is greater than in years past.

So I posted this to see what your thoughts were on this matter. In particular (but not limited to) the following:
- Are surprise cuts a guarantee?
- A lot of "Binkys" won't make this team, will they?
- Will it be extra risky this year to try to move a player to the PS?
- What about the names I left off, LeVoir, Orhenburger, TBC, Ventrone, any others?
- Could some of the Pats cuts could make significant contributions elsewhere?

It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. I just wanted to see if others were thinking about this also...

7 OL is probably too few, 8 is more realistic (sometimes its 9 or 10).

I'm counting LeVoir in, possibly Ohrnberger as well.

I don't think 5 safeties AND 5 corners will make it...i think they will cut a safety or two and use those spots to keep more lineman...

I didn't check to see what the team did historically. I probably should have. But if there are more OL then who doesn't make the 53?

I think that this is interesting this year as it seems there is more depth. Some good players will not make this team.

Is this the end of the Tank Williams experiment? Or is McGowan just not good enough to make the team?

I think the team would need to go with more than seven offensive linemen; that's just two backups for five positions where players are often dinged up. My guess is one less RB, TE, or WR (pick two), and add two more roster spots for the line - Orhenberger and LeVoir in my opinion. Edelman and BJGE look like they would be the most likely odd men out.

I don't know if both McGowan and Williams make the team. My guess is one gets cut and another linebacker stays, such as TBC or Alexander. Another option would be to keep another special teams ace such as Ciurciu, Slater or Ventrone.

I'd guess 1 less RB and 1 less Saftey and 2 more OL guys.
Springs can play saftey if needed.
We got TEs for fullbacks.

2 QB - Brady, O'Conell (Hoyer on the PS)
9 OL - Koppen, Mankins, Light, Neal, Kaczur, Vollmer, Hochstein, LeVoir, Yates
4 TE - Watson, Smith, Baker, Thomas
5 RB - Moroney, Morris, Taylor, Faulk, BJGE

Defense 23

5 ST - Gostkowski, Hanson, Ingram, Slater, Aiken

2 QB - Brady, O'Conell (Hoyer on the PS)

That certainly could shift dynamics. Hard to picture it going down like this, though. Unless someone like Walter could be a shadow roster guy.

I'd go another OL over 5th RB. Law firm - lotsa love here, but I think he's the odd man.

i think flyonthewall's is pretty close, as his namesake would suggest.

What he said about the law firm.

I don't think we'll carry 10 DB's (unless one of them is Williams who doubles at LB).

Walter is the 2009 Testeverde. Lenon & Yates may also be asked to float on the shadow roster rather than sign with someone else.

* If Edelman is still developing as a Return-man, they may keep Green-Ellis and let Edelman develop on the Practice Squad.

This seems pretty good to me. I think they probably keep 3 QBs and if I had to take that spot from somewhere the combo of 4 TE 5 Backs seem high to me. Which position takes up the FB role could make the difference in who goes. I suspect the TEs will...in which case Lawfirm is out tough decision but he wont be the only one.

I like that you didn't axe Slater or Aiken as I think they are two of the better STs players on the team and when making the difficult decisions it is easy for us as fans to axe them before someone we see as a regular Offensive or Defensive player.

Along that line I wonder how good a STer McGowan, Lennon, and Crable are because they are on the bottom of the depth at their positions and if others are better at STs than they might get a spot over them. I might switch any combo of the above for Ventrone, Tully, Alexander, Ciurciu, Herna-Daze or someone else I might be overlooking that we know have STs skills.

Not sure Edelman is going to get a spot over one of the overlooked STers listed above either.

Walter is getting kudos from the boss and KOC is continuing to struggle. Reading the tea leaves, I don't think QB is where we shave a roster spot. Hoyer goes to the PS. At issue is whether Walter or KOC emerges as the #2 and the one who does not remains the #3.

Lawfirm will have atough time making this roster unless one of the other 4 RB's is injured in the pre season.
