Only posting his usual they better watch out drivel because in it he claims Tommy's base salary this season is $2.3M. It has long been reported as $5M and that is what Miguel carries it as on his site. So either some of Brady's salary got converted recently and would therefore have freed up $1.35M (which would mean he also got it anyway, Ron) or longstanding reports on Brady's salary were incorrect or Ron is wr...wr...wrong.

His base salary this season is only $2.3 million, with an additional $3 million roster bonus. In 2010, that base package rises to $3.5 million plus another $3 million roster bonus.

Miguel?

Why hasn't someone killed Borges yet?

Borges misinforms his readers about Brady's contract detailstatus

Brady's 2009 salary is still listed on the NFLPlayers site as $5,000,000. Brady's 2009 salary was scheduled to be $2,300,000 when he signed his extension in 2005 but it was increased to $5,000,000 in 2007 when Brady's extension was redone. It appears that Borges is using the original 2009 salary and not the changed number, which is just lazy journalism. We can now definitely say that unlike other Patriots reporters he does not read my cap pages because I documented all of this on them.

PM's deal is still listed as ending in 2012.

When Cassel was tagged earlier this year, there was a lot of mention that his then-cap number of $14.651 million was higher than Brady's $14.62 million.

That is just sad, and is a prime example of why I no longer trust the media. That just screams "I DIDN'T DO MY RESEARCH". Same old Borges.

Spot on.

A perfect illustration of why the Globe and other newspapers are dying. First, the facts are inaccurate, sloppy research. Where are the layers of 'fact checking editors' that the old media trumpets when touting their superiority to other internet information sources? Secondly, once again and all too often, a so-called journalist writes with an unbridled agenda and biased opinion that supercedes reality. Opinion based journalism became blatantly obvious to readers once the Globe, Newsweek etc. faced other sources of information on cable news and the internet. I once read them all assiduously, but they won't be missed.

Since we are speaking in the vein of accuracy in reporting, PWP, it should be noted that Borges works for that rag called the Herald, NOT the Globe. But you are not far off in the rest of your post. Clearly in the next few months there will be regular references about Brady, his contract, and how "underpaid" he is.

I think, or rather I'm hoping, that Brady understands that he is only as good as the players he is surrounded with, and the first rule of capology states that for every dollar you spend on one player, there is one less dollar for everyone else. If Brady insists on getting paid at the market rate, which happens to be MORE than anyone else, then he will only be cutting off his nose to spite his face.

At the rates of compensation that players of Brady's caliber are getting ALREADY, its not about "feeding his family", its not about changing his standard of living; rather its all about how big your **** is, compared to the next guy. Again I'm hoping that Brady isn't that kind of guy. That concern for his physical well being and his competitive nature, will overcome the short sighted desire to be the "guy with the biggest ****".

He will always be the Pats highest paid player and that should be enough. It would also be a refreshing message to send to the rest of the league. And yes, I know I'm being naive. ;)

He's said as much in interviews. He knows that, in the salary cap era, every extra dollar they pay him is a dollar they can't spend on his teammates.

The fact checkers are gone because the industry is dying. Poor reporting is the result of the economics, not the cause. And like every product that is reduced in quality by expense cutting, it accelerates the death spiral.

How many of us who complain about the quality of the Globe subscribe to it? To me, that's the price of admission for the right to complain. s

Well, if it's big enough for Giselle, it's big enough.... Wait a minute, that didn't come out quite right.

Anyways, Brady took a home town discount in his last contract, I have no reason to think that he won't take another one. Brady wants to win, and it will show when he signs his next contract.

. It would also be a refreshing message to send to the rest of the league.

Not everyone in the league is married to a superstar model.

Personally, I think that it was not a hometown discount but a discount that reflected that Brady was in 2005 two years away from free agency. Any deal this year will/should also reflect that fact but will most likely be portrayed as a hometown discount.

See Colts and PM in 2006.
See Steelers and Big Ben in 2008.

better

He doesn't need fact checkers for good info. If someone comes to Patsfans.com and Miquel's page, you get correct info 99.9% of the time.

Also, if someone wants to hook me up with Giselle for as an intimate "inside" source, I available for a reasonable salary.

Actually, I'll do it as an intern.

Rather than getting pissed at Borges I think we should all direct our anger at the real culprits here: The morons in the front office for the Giants.

The only way you can justify giving a contract like that to Eli Manning is if you were held at gun point (multiple assault rifles at that) or if you are certifiably mentally challenged. I could care less if their organization decides to blows their wads (of money) on Eli, but not only are they hurting themselves but they are also potentially screwing with the entire NFL. Now that joke of a contract becomes "market value" for (mediocre) QBs and creates a domino effect until we have guys like Trent Edwards sitting on 6 year/$120 million contracts.

This is magnified version of Dominic Foxworth and Albert Haynesworth deals that went down in the offseason. The entire league now has to pay for stupidity of these imbeciles.

Brady happens to be one of the most competitive guys. Why would he want to play 2nd(or 3rd, or 4th) fiddle to the Manning bros on the pay scale? For the betterment of the team? How about just taking the vet minimum? That way they can the money to sign julias peppers.

So him asking for most money is not as insane as him cutting his nose off. This is capitalism. A banker paid $10MM/yr feels he is 10x more successful than a banker paid $1MM/yr. By any means, material things like bank accounts, fancy houses and jets rank order social status. As do the foxy ladies. It is ingrained in our human nature.

Call it competitiveness or survival instict: Let put it this way, if they both happened to ever need a kidney, who is the more likely to receive one? a beggar or billionaire?

Yes, the biggest **** gets whatever it wants.

It is a bit unfair to expect Brady to be the superhero and humanitarian and pro bono all at the sametime. But I don't know the man as much as some of you guys :)

Absolutely. The other thing that needs to be done is to restrict rookie salaries to something approaching sanity for the first couple of round selections. Seeing some kid who hasn't played a down in the NFL get a whopping big contract when other, veteran players are still getting minimum salaries is insulting. Those idiot rookie contracts, especially for 1st=round selectees, are franchise-killers.

Honestly the whole Crabtree situation makes me want to go kick a puppy. Something needs to be done.

You can play the system to your advantage. The second round salaries are still reasonable. Simply trade out of 1st round and moving to second and third round and pick up veterans. Let others hang the noose on their franchise. You can also pre-negotiate salary framework with potential 1st round draftees and only draft the ones that signed on to your sheet. (if you don't sign you are out). For guys out of lottery slot, should easy to impose it on them.

I won't change a thing on rookie salaries.
