Pre-Camp Rosters

I bumped this to discuss special teamers. When I posted last week, I had four special team positions. I now expect a third QB to be kept, so only three special team only positions are available on my roster list.

In the end, I think Dave Thomas, Tank Williams or Edleman have to make the 53 at a position or not at all, so I have excluded them. For me, this leaves seven players competing for the ST/utility roster spots.

I have BJGE in this group, because unless we cut one of the top four running backs, his position would need to bump one of the player below.

SPECIAL TEAMS OR UTILITY (3)
ST (3) Aiken, Ciurcui, Jones
PUP (1) Tate

BJGE, Slater, Alexander

I thought I'd update for Walter and Burgess and for Aiken being captain of special teams (some thought this might be Ciurciu).

First, to state the obvious, this is the strongest 80 man camp ever (I don't count McKenzie in the 80). There is still room for Carter to come in and beat out Smith or Greene.

OFFENSE (23)
QB (3) - Brady, O'Connell, Walter
RB (4) - Taylor, Morris, Maroney, Faulk (This is plenty)
FB (0) - (I'm not as comfortable with this as some)
WR (4) - Moss, Welker, Galloway, Lewis (Faulk and TE's have the rest of the catches)
C/OG (5) - Mankins, Koppen, Neal, Orhenberger, Hochstein
OT (4) - Light, Kaczur, LeVoir, Vollmer
TE (3) - Watson, Baker, Smith (time for Thomas to go)

DEFENSE (25)
DL (7) - Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Green, Smith, Wright, Brace
OLB (5) - Thomas, Burgess, Woods, Banta-Cain, Crable
ILB (4) - Mayo, Bruschi, Guyton, Lenon
CB (5) - Bodden, Springs, Wilhite, Wheatley, Butler
S (4) Meriweather, Sanders, Chung, McGowan/Williams

SPECIALISTS (3)
K (1) Gostkowski
P (1) Hanson
DS (1) Hodel/Ingram

SPECIAL TEAMS (2)
ST (2) Aiken, Jones

PUP

Call me crazy, but I think Bubba and Slater are both in the 53. Wouldn't shock me to see De Vree in there either judging by reports.

Same with Nunn. Seems to be making a decent impression. If not in the 53, PS guy? Same with Edelman.

I want to keep Slater around, excellent Special Teamer (unless put in in bad conditions against Pittsburgh after not consistently returning kicks all year. Wrong time to let him do it). Also playing at backup Safety in Camp (i've been on vacation, so may be wrong?)

I think ILB and CB are done at 4 and 5.
I think OLB will be 4 with no TBC.

Don't know much about this Jones guy, so will wait and see how he performs and if he can beat out a Slater/Ventrone type for what is basically a Special Teams poistion.

I've added the latest binky: Nunn
I've also moved TBC to a special team position. As you say there is need for only four OLB's. Crable is the big question mark.

I added Wendell and Nunn. I moved The 5th OLB position to a ST position.
