Ian's Daily Blog - Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe reported this afternoon that the Patriots traded for defensive end Derrick Burgess of the Oakland Raiders. Terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed. The 30-year-old Burgess is in the final year of a five-year deal, and had been boycotting Raiders training camp to try to force the [...]

ILB is still open for discussion, I'd imagine.

Well, let's hope either Lenon and/or Guyton step there and we potentially have the best LBing corp of the Belichick era. That is saying a lot too since the 2003 was spectacular. Granted that means Burgess has to turn back to his 2005 or 2006 form or something close.

Did you know Guyton was the fastest LB in the combine last year and the Patriots were shocked nobody took him in the draft??

I am hoping Guyton is the guy that makes that takes a quantum leap from year one to year two and solidifies the position. He did show potential last year to do just that.

So shocked they drafted Bo Ruud instead?

I like Guyton, please don't call me names. Just think "shocked" is a bit inappropriate.

I don't think Woods is done, but he just isn't a fulltime starter.

I don't think we know either way. If Crable's healthy, I think having to fight for time will do them some good.

isn't guyton an ILB? i thought he's going to be tedy's replacement (someday).

Pats trade for Burgess. PFT saying (per Lombardi) it's a 3rd and 5th in 2011. Seems high. Especially so if Woods is still playing on 1st downs (and some 2nd downs). Usually trust Lombardi, but could it really be that high ?

Having said that - I fully expect BB to get some extra '11 picks in the '10 draft. But wait - does an uncapped year eventually lead to no draft in '11 ?

Why? We have the flexibility to play Thomas inside on frequent occassions.

Look what they can put out for a 4-3.

Thomas
Seymour
Wilfork
Burgess

Mayo
Bruschi
Guyton

I'd be satisafied with this type of setup - but in the end, you are sitting Warren ? Is that what's best ? OK - he's not on the field at the moment, but I have to think he's gonna be ready to go in the not too distant future.

Well he has to rest sometime.
The thing is if a team can put out an alignment like that for a few plays and still have a guy like Warren on the bench...that's good depth.

where is Hey Bro and the others to complain about another old LB :D

I was in my seat at Gillette for the evening practice...I was trying to figure out who was wearing the Red Jersey (figured it out a few minutes later Whilhite) I went on line to see if maybe they let the media live update for this one and saw the news. I was so jacked up by it that I felt like it was gameday.

To steal a line from Barstoolsports....CUE THE DUCK BOATS!!!!!!
