Its Sander's time to take over the leadership in the 3rd tier on defense and it needs to be much better than last season in that area if this team is going to go far.

I don't know that Sanders can ever be the leader that Harrison or players like Willie McGinest were; perhaps that may or may not have been one of the reasons for the Pats problems with their third down defense last year. Belichick seems to have a whole lot more faith in Sanders than most on this board do so I'll be happy to give him the benefit of the doubt; the additions of Chung, Bodden, Springs and the return of Adalius Thomas could have more to do with the production from this defense than with Sanders possibly taking over Harrison's role as vocal leader and motivator.

I have a good feeling that at the end of the year Patrick Chung will be the Leader of safeties. It would be great if Rodney Harrison came to camp for a week to coach the Safeties.

I could understand if your opinion of what you have seen him do on the field is less than enthusiastic about his playing ability, but what would you base your comment about him not having the ability to be a leader on?

If I didnt know anything about the Patriots and read your posts only I would think this was a perennial 4-12 team.
Maybe you can consider that this is what readers gather from your posts while you are writing them and if you don't intend to convey that change your attitude.

Truth is the truth homer,The team better have a stoppage in the secondary than in 08 or it will be trouble - you can slice and dice your crap all you want,the secondary was at the bottom of the league and Bodden and Springs hopefully will help that area.

BTW: I get a little bit annoyed at how you try and tell people what to say and when to say it - All you want is to read in here is what you like to read and for everyone to agree with you,A closer 'Reality check' says that you're no more special than anyone in here so can it with that lecture garbage,I am 40+ years old and taking orders from 'Daddy' are over. - For instance,Who the hell are you to tell someone not to use the word '******ed' in a freaking internet forum? - Unless its used against another member as a personal attack,its not a rule in here not to say 'Rex Ryan is ******ed' for example.


In reality,people like me who thought Cassel was going to ruin the teams playoff hopes in 2008 turned out to not be the case - It was the secondary who cost the team a few games by missing on some important stops during crucial times and a huge reason why Hobbs was no longer a necessity to keep - This secondary needs to be the difference this season,like it or not...and that includes you accepting that fact Andy.

Oh I agree playing talent and leadership talent don't have to be related; I just think it is a lot easier for a player to be accepted as a team's leader and motivator if he is also clearly one of the team's most talented players and top performers, or has a past history of being a winner and clutch performer.

Clearly BB thinks he is a solid player as he would not have given him a 3yr $9m deal. His numbers below show that he does warrant the contract.

36 starts, 5 INTs, 10 PDs & 195 TTs.

The only gripe I have is that in 55 games he only has one forced fumble.

Sanders strikes me a solid, steady and unspectacular player who knows the D. I can't speak for his leadership abilities, but based on what Rodney said, maybe he is ready to become a true playmaker. Again, based on the contract, BB thinks so too.

“James might surprise a lot of people this year. He’s always doing things the right way. He always wants things to be perfect,” said Harrison, now an analyst for NBC Sports Football Night in America. “What hurts him, is that he wants everything to be perfect. He wants to play a perfect game. And yet, that can help him too, because it forces you to strive to get better.”

Harrison believes Sanders is ahead of most young safeties because he already has the mental component down. He’s a student of the game, and studies constantly, like some of the NFL’s more accomplished safeties.

As I have said, my IMPRESSION is that every time I open a post of yours it is negative. i.e. you post that an article was written about Sanders, but must add a negative comment.
It is my IMPRESSION, it is not a fact I have researched, it is not an analysis, assessement, judgment nor lecture.

I'm worried about how the new cornerbacks are going to transition in our scheme. Considering the offseason moves made at that position, I'm pretty sure that BB shares my attitude.

I agree. That was another major factor in retaining Sanders. When you look at the roster, hes the only guy with more than 2 years exp in the defensive secondary. As #37 stated, the safeties are the ones that call out the adjustments.

On another note, its too bad Eugene Wilson regressed so badly. He seemed to have a nice career path going on this team. He seemed to have rebounded at Houston but did not replicate hsi performance here. At any rate, glad to have Sanders in the defensive backfield to lessen that losss.

The stat you quoted, is the biggest pile of Trash and misinformative Nonsense, I ever saw.

Fact.

The number of appearances that an opposition Offense had in the Pats Red Zone was a League low number. Not many teams actually penetrated to the Red Zone. Of those comparative few that did, they scored more TDs than average. Two DAMN TDs would swing this from this "bad" percentage to the average of the League.

Meaningless drivel. How the hell else could you rnake the Top Ten/Top Eight Defense with a genuine statistic like this? It is an artificial Fluke statistic.

The only valid statistic is that the Pats allowed a high percentage of pass completions; and of Third down conversions. But the reality is that most opposition drives petered out BEFORE their short completions got them as far as the Patriots Red Zone. The essence of Bend, Don't Break, in action.

Despite the loss of Vrabel, Woods, Wheatley and AD and a bunch of rookies playing on Defense, the Pats sacked the passer better than half of the Teams in the League. Look it up. Doibg nothing but return to health will solve the Pass Rush.

But the pass coverage was still inferior, short and over the middle. That is why the entire secondary is/was rebuilt; and the first pick in the draft was a Safety and the third pick in the second round was a CB. Not to mention that two prime veteran FA secondary players were signed.
