Do you realize Hobbs played with muscle tears and other major injuries?

Hobbs was a great Patriot. A real try hard guy who made the most of his gifts. He wasn't the best CB, but he DID his best, and THAT should be enough for Pats fans to give the respect he deserves.

I think he'll do fine in Philly. IMHO he was best suited to play in the slot as a nickel back. He just didn't have the physicality to play big receivers down field. In Philly I think THATs where they will play him and he'll do well.

BTW, I'm still pissed that we traded him for draft picks THIS year, instead of getting a 4th next season. I would have been OK with a 5th this year and a 4th next year instead of 2 5ths this year.

Same thoughts here, well said, I liked Hobbs, gave it all on returns and a pretty smart CB, he was great.

They immediately turned those two 5ths this year into a 4th and 6th this year which netted them an OL and LS and probably allowed them the felxibility to take a flyer on a guy like Edleman in the 7th. I chuckle at people who get pissed at BB's draft day trading and drafting. I'd like to think he too has done enough for Pats fans to give him the respect he deserves.

Totally agree. I was never a fan of the Hobbs bashing, the kid gave us his all every Sunday. He was a spark for our team in a lot of ways..but was used in situatinos that were perhaps beyond his physical abilities. Can't fault the kid for giving us his all and never giving up. He was also an incredibly exciting kick returner. He was an underdog in a lot of ways, and I respect that. I will certainly miss him (i won't miss his coverage of comeback routes, however.)

Thats because he basically played the last year as a patriot with a torn groin. If he ever manages to stay healthy (big if), he'll be a great player.

For the sake of this thread, can someone define "great"? Are you using "great" as we would in the context in paying homage to CBs like Ty Law/Raymond Clayborn/Mike Haynes great or are you using "great" to describe a career like Steve Grogan?

Hobbs was a fine KR but he was a stretch as a #2 CB and much more suited to be a nickle/dime DB. In trading him, BB got value commensurate with his production-to -date and upside. Sure he played hurt and that deserves some adulation for that but great would not be the word I'd use to pay homage to Hobbs' time here. Instead, I'd catagorize him as a max-effort guy and a professional and put him in the same class as Sam Gash.

Or, maybe the coach shouldn't have called a formation that left a 5'9" CB one on one with a 6'6'' WR.
