Camp session #10 -- attendance and notes
5:44 PM Mon, Aug 03, 2009
By Shalise Manza Young

Randy Moss, as expected, was present for the afternoon's practice, which was held in shells and shorts (except for rookie Jake Ingram, who was in his pads pants). The rest of the absent list was much the same as this morning:

DE Richard Seymour
CB Shawn Springs
CB Jonathan Wilhite
LB Tedy Bruschi
TE Benjamin Watson
DE Le Kevin Smith
OL Ryan O'Callaghan
OL Al Johnson
OL George Bussey
DL Myron Pryor

* In 7-on-7 work, Tom Brady lofted a pass to Moss in the corner of the end zone but rookie Darius Butler jumped and tipped the ball away.

* In 11-on-11 work, the emphasis on red zone/goal line continued, and it appeared that the extra time Brady spent with Chris Baker may have paid off quickly, as the pair hooked up on at least two successful plays.

Day 5, second Patriots practice

FOXBOROUGH – The Patriots concluded their afternoon practice (3:45-5:15 p.m.) and players were in shorts and jerseys. This was the first non-pads, non-walkthrough practice since training camp opened.
Here are some observations from the practice:

1) Unhappy ending for 2-minute drill. The Patriots worked on their 2-minute package and it got off to a solid start when Tom Brady found Joey Galloway down the left side on a long bomb (Leigh Bodden and James Sanders the closest defenders in the area). An incomplete pass to Randy Moss followed, before Wes Welker scooped up a low throw for a completion inside the 10. It then looked like Brady found Kevin Faulk for a touchdown underneath, but linebacker Jerod Mayo knocked the ball away. Next play: Ill-advised Brady pass, intended for Moss under th goal posts, which was picked off by Brandon Meriweather. The third-year safety then did a little dance on the ground in celebration, spinning his body around and around.

It Is What It Is Notes from Monday PM practice

Notes from Monday PM practice

FOXBOROUGH — Hey all … some quick notes from Monday afternoon practice, which was held outside in shorts and shells:

•Birthday boy Tom Brady got it good from his teammates. First, teammate Matt Light made off with his helmet during the stretching exercises. Then, when the team huddled up, some linemen could be seen carrying a large jug of water over to the huddle … that was soon dumped on Brady. He was also hit in the face with a birthday cake. It took him a while to clean the cake out of his face…

...

•Like the early session, there appeared to be plenty of red zone work for the offense. Chris Baker (who spent a lot of time with Brady after the morning session working on their timing), Randy Moss and Wes Welker all made some nice catches in red zone work. Brandon Meriweather ended the series of drills with a nice pick of the quarterback.

Sun drenches the practice field, Patriots offensive lineman drench Brady on Day 5

For the first time since the Patriots began camp, they practiced today in shells — ya know, helmets and shoulder pads. And it was a ridiculously nice day, so that was a bonus for those of us watching.

So, here’s what happened:

– The practice started with Tom Brady receiving another, um, birthday present like this morning. This time, teammates Matt Light and Dan Koppen combined to hit Brady with a cake in the face and water on the head. Good times…

Paul’s Calls: Monday afternoon notes
Written by Paul Perillo on August 3, 2009 – 5:50 pm[/size]

The Patriots just completed their Monday afternoon practice, which was the team’s 10th thus far in training camp and first held in shorts and shells. The team worked on a variety of red zone passing drills and Scott O’Brien got some time to drill his punt team.

...

Here are my observations from the afternoon’s work:

– The offense looked sharp throughout. From the drills in individual work to the actual application of that during the team period, Tom Brady found open receivers and rarely missed them. It was one of the better afternoons for the guys in white shirts.

– I know this qualifies as the Earth is round-type of news, but my God is Randy Moss gifted. He and the receivers took part in a drill where passes were short passes were thrown across the middle and they had to catch them with one hand. Moss made his grabs look so effortless it was amazing. The other receivers managed to catch most of their chances, but none looked like Moss. He later made a one-handed grab in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown in a 7-on-7 drill.

News and notes from Monday afternoon's practice.

Who's Hot: The Offensive Line
They got Tom Brady good on his 32nd birthday (details below).

Who's Not: Paris Lenon
The free agent linebacker got burnt a few times in passing situations and has yet to make many positive plays in these first few days of camp.

Play of Practice: Welker TD from Brady
In red zone work, Brady made a great pre-snap blitz pick-up, sensing that Gary Guyton and/or Brandon Meriweather were gunning for him up the middle. Brady appeared to call for a new protection scheme, which got both players to retreat a bit from the line of scrimmage. In that moment of hesitation by the defense, Brady called for a quick snap, which caught the defense off-guard. WR Wes Welker ran a nice corner route and easily separated from rookie Darius Butler. Brady lofted the ball to Welker in the right corner of the end zone for the score.

Paris Lenon : the early camp cut?

man, it seems like every practice meriweather comes up with a pick - this is really encouraging, sounds like he is getting ready to make the leap this year

Good for Merri, but Brady shouldn't have tried to force that ball into a crowd at the goal line.

I hope Wilhite recovers soon from what ever it is thats bothering him
