SBB 7/31 AM practice report (funny stuff)

Steve Williams may have got himself cut.

11 on 11 and williams got in the backfield and bumped into Tom and than extremely pissed off and extremely loud Ivan Fears reamed him out "god damn it don't touch him...."

and he was sent for a lap.

I have Jumped off the Edelman train. JK I wont be hot one day cold the next but he looked terrible today couldn't catch the punts with an extra ball in his hand I might have let that slide a bit but he followed that up by dropping one without a extra ball.

Taylor had a real nice cut back run in 7 on 7 and another nice juke in one on one backs vs DBs. But hurt Whilhite on another 1 on 1 though he seemed ok and continued practice after getting checked out.

Brady looked good.

Slater had an INT from a ball tipped up by a WR and different defender fighting for a pass.

Alex Smith had a nasty block on AD in 7 on 7 pushing him out 5-10 yards for Maroney.

Guyton had a nice stuff in the 7 on 7. and Woods did too.

Quick story I had about Chung in College. He took a milatary attitude into practices and had his DBs drop and do push ups during down time. This was done on their own no instruction from the coaches. Well he was doing it today at practice and at the end of the day Butler joined him too. This kids work ethic is rediculous.

Chung made one nice stuff in the one on one and got beat once pretty bad.

Thats it for now. if I think of more I will add it. Otherwise I will back this afternoon.

Play of the Day was a screen to Greg Lewis that he took to the house basically untouched.

No questioning whether the lack of full contact would have changed things he was gone.

Was there today as well. Time for a friendly rivalry with SBB!

My notes:

-Exclusively 4-3 today. No Seymour, and obviously no Warren. So Green, Banta-Cain, Smith, Brace, and Williams were the ends. Wilfork, Wright, Brace, Adams, Williams were inside. Inside linebackers were Bruschi and Mayo. Outside were Thomas, Guyton, Woods, Lenon, Alexander, Redd.

-Ventrone has replaced Izzo as the signal caller on the punt team; you could hear him from the sidelines.

-Caserio continues to work closely with the WRs; O'Shea is on the other side. Harkens back to 2007 when O'Brien and Caserio split duty with the WRs.

-Edelman dropped two punts, much to the crowd's chagrin. Galloway, Faulk, and Welker also fielded punts, each catching the ball with another already in their arms.

-Bussey worked at LT behind Vollmer.

-5 snappers for QB drills: Koppen, Hochstein, Yates, Connolly, Wendell

-Greg Lewis had a good catch-and-run touchdown.

-Brian Belichick was a mock RB for TE/LB/S drills:

SBB - patriots football weekly seemed to think Brady was "off" - what did you see to rate his morning as "good" ?

Also, did you see Butler getting "undressed" by an offensive player ? Two days in and it's been mentionned a few times that he's gotten beat. Maybe Butler will need quite a bit of time before becoming the solid contributor we hope he can become.

he is there that's good enough for me. He did have a few balls that were a little off but I dont think I would have rated the morning as off.

I have seen Butler struggle a bit once I got his number straightened out. (I blamed Bodden on a bad play because I thought Bodden switched to 28 it was Butler).

Thomas is a freak and can really move but I don't think he was catching him. Dude slowed down then sped back up when he realized Thomas wa still coming. I think he figured he was gone and it is common in practice to slow up when the play is all but over.

Time for a friendly rivalry with SBB!

nothing like a good rivalry to bring out the best in us. Its good to have more than one set of eyes. Not sure what to do this afternoon with the rain. I have a cookout tommorow so only the morning session for me so you have a chance to one up me.

Edelman was brutal on punts, but I was pretty impressed with him in the receiver drills. Catching alongside Welker and Lewis, he looked like he belonged.

Edelman dropping punts isn't a big deal yet, he's a college QB who NE is trying to develop in a number of roles to take advantage of his athleticism. Ken reported he was one of the "after class" guys getting taking extra work to get better - works for me.

From the Brian Belichick drill as pictured, any impression of how the various OLBs handled the TE double-teams?

In 4-3 drills, when lining up as OLBs, any indication the individual backers were working WLB vs SLB more?

Bubba Ventrone has been my pick for Special Teams' Captain this year with Aiken his strongest competition.

Malone boomed them in NFLE too, it's his directionals and bad weather kicking that have needed work - any observations when they work on directional kicks and in bad weather would be welcome.

I've read the LS duel hasn't risen to Paxton standards yet...observations on the holder's handling off-target shots would also be welcome and will factor into the Punter duel.

The more I read about Bussey's versatility...The Director has his work cut out for him.

Greg Lewis to spell Galloway is sounding better and better for mixing and matching on offense.

I'd say Woods and Thomas were SAM. Guyton was WILL.

Didn't pay attention the OLBs or the LS. The LSs mainly worked on the far field during positional drills, except for the punting drill.
