Buffalo Bills players, fans shine under the lights | democratandchronicle.com | Democrat and Chronicle
Of course, there were some lighter moments, too. Like after practice, when quarterback Trent Edwards joked about his role in the "wildcat" formation used by the offense.

Edwards contends the Bills are working on it at camp to prepare the defense for games against the wildcat users, like the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots.

Wide receiver Roscoe Parrish looks quite comfortable taking the snaps with Edwards lined up to the side, however.

Wow - instead of beating them by 20, NE will beat them by 34 if they prefer planning for the Pats' WC instead of their base offense.

Didn't the Patriots only use the Wildcat formation once last year when Faulk took the snap and threw a negative yardage pass? Yeah, the Pats are a big user of the Wildcat

I hope not!!! The wildcat is such a flash in the pan offense. The novelty will wear off.

if they somehow end up using the wildcat offense, then I want them (nfln/espn) to play the Benny Hill music during any game highlight reel

Wildcat is a good formation. Going forward, the Wildcat's success won't be based on surprise, but on the opponent's lack of planning and/or reaction to it.

No, New England shouldn't run it. Why take TB out of the play?

But, if you don't have a HOF QB, and would like to try to get an advantage through planning, the wildcat makes a lot of sense. If the defense isn't prepared for the wildcat, it will ruin their day.

This entire element of their game plan will depend on what they do with Vick imo...

Winner! Except, I'll have that tune stuck in my head all day now. :enranged:

It's either a pretty long "flash" or a very old "pan," since the Single Wing has been around since Pop Warner introduced it in the 1920's. The Dolphins version has a Parcellian twist, but it is basically the same formation. It fell out of favor with the advent of the T-formation in the 1940's, but today's "pulling guards" are a vestige of the Single Wing. I believe that the Steelers were the last team to give up the Single Wing and that they did so sometime in the 1950's.

Putting aside the "other issues," a player like Vick, coming off the bench (if he were willing to be a role player), could be a major weapon for a team that used the formation a couple of times a game.

Once again, the wildcat is a good package to have in your playbook, we've got good enough personel that we don't have to have our offense revolve around it like miami, but its good to have when you want it

Why do people keep referencing the game that Miami unleashed the wildcat against the Patriots, but they never mention the second Miami game where the Patriots shut it down? It is one thing to pull it out when no one expects it, but if you know it is coming, it is easily defended.

At some point, you have to figure that some team is going to start looking at Chad Pennington not as a second QB in the wildcat formation, but as a potential lead blocker on a running play. Shortly thereafter, some SS or OLB is going to stick his helmet up under Chad's chinstrap, knocking him on his back, out of the wildcat, and onto IR. Now you have Pat White as your real QB. Just wait.
