The Patriots are 20,759 Miles from making the playoffs

Even without the London trip, that still is A LOT of miles for the team to try and avoid jet lag a few times during the season and maybe lay a bad egg along the way

The 2007 season schedule was not only easier than 2009 if you go by last years result of the other teams for this year and on paper, but they didn't even travel far all of the 2007 season as Dallas was as far west as they got that year.

Will 20,759 miles of travel and the wear on a team it can cause be reason for concern as the season progresses into december?

Nice idea for an article but poorly executed.

Never says what the average mileage flown for the NFL is, what the average for the Patirots is, and how the Patriots compare to Colts, etc.

One-third of the Patriots mileage comes from one week, so teh average isn't nearly as high as 20,000 miles in 16 weeks. They will be one equal footing with the Bucs in England, so Jet lag is not a factor, and don't they have their bye week after the England trip? No jet lag there, either.

That leaves 14,000 miles for 7 away games, or an average flight of 1,000 miles. Whoop-do-doo.

The only teams that should have an issue with Jet lag are the west coast teams, who on the average travel much further (compare density of teams in eastern half and western half of hte country) PLUS jet lag is worse going west to east, as any frequent flyer knows.

It still would be a great article, though, if he would dig up more data and analyze it. Maybe graph win-loss record vs miles traveled.

I think the biggest issue with traveling is not the number of miles traveled, but the disruption to the routine and the away crowd noise (silent count, etc)

Patriots are miles away from the Super Bowl - Quincy, MA - The Patriot Ledger

I take your point, but I think that it represents just one of several uncontrollable variables that can impact any team's season. I tend to think that these things generally balance out across all teams.

Along with all the flaws you listed of not mentioning how many miles they flew in the past or other teams have.

The statement is false. They are 20,759 miles from the playoffs.

If there path to the SB involves two home games than that number is only short by a couple of hundred miles to fly to miami. However, if there road to the superbowl involves road trips to the Chargers, Raiders and Texans you can add quite a few more miles beyond 20,759 before they get to the SB.

Re: Farley: Schedule, travel

My question would be..NOT INCLUDING the London trip..who does this compare to other the air miles for other teams?? OR how does it compare to Patriot travel of the past?? Just putting it out there without comparisons says really only a little. Remember last year with 4 West Coast games?? How easily many seem to forget how tough THAT was suppose to be..and how they stayed out on the coast with back to back games.

Re: Farley: Schedule, travel

At least traveling to London is a road game. For Tampa, its a home game.

Re: The Patriots are 20,759 Miles from making the playoffs

The longer the road, the sweeter the victory...

I know, that is the ultimate insult for the Bucs. THey have a "home" game in a country where the Patriots are the favorite team. To be fair, it should have been a Pats home game. Not the Goodell is ever fair, but at least it's nice to see that he is unthinking, insensitive and arbitrary with teams other than the Pats.
