New Draft Format.... EPIC FAIL

Sorry Roger. But the new draft format that you are attempting to shove down the fans throats will be an Epic FAIL.

The best part of it being on the weekend was that it really didn't conflict with anything that was on TV. Now, its going to be going against shows like CSI, Survivor, and WWE. And, while people may laugh when the WWE is mentioned, they are now up to 4 broadcasts a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday).

I definitely don't get why he would think that the draft would be any less accessible to fans with the old format vs. this new format. In fact, changing it to 4:30 PST on Thursday, 3:30 PST on Friday, and 7 am PST on Saturday will actually make it LESS accessible to people.

Different strokes for different folks, I like it. Weekends are busy, telling my wife that I am going to sit on the coach and watch the draft for 6 hours while avoiding the kids, chores, etc. just will not fly.

I like the new format, creates less conflict in my life.

I've pretty much given up on watching the first round in any case. It's just too painfully slow, and for those of us draft-geeky enough to hang out on this board the commentators almost never tell us anything we didn't already know. Here's a business idea: a round-1 service that alerts you (maybe an IM or text) every time the commissioner starts walking to the podium, so you can come pay attention long enough to hear the pick, then go back to doing laundry or playing Scrabble.

One more thought on the new format: 3 teams have already traded away their #1 pick for 2010. So you've just lost those markets altogether for your Thursday spectacular.

Agreed, I can get away with sitting in front of the 2nd TV, folding laundry, reading a book to my daughter or whatever far easier for a few hours on a Thursday night than for 7 hours on Saturday. Plus add in that I work a second job on spring weekends, this increases the probability that I'll see more than 10 minutes of the draft on TV that is not Steelers related (I live in Pittsburgh)

I agree. This is a move to appease the casual draft fan. I like the draft where it was - a two day marathon. You literally have to scratch two days off your calendar to commit to watching the draft.

Now, its spread over three prime times. Much more accessible, but way less exciting to those of us who celebrate the draft.

I don't mind it, when it was on the weekend i use to lock myself away with a tv, a computer and something to eat and drink. I would schedual things around draft Saterday. This is still better than having it on the Tuesday after the Boston marathon, like it use to be.

Overall I agree this just gives too much opportunity for people to do other things, not to mention Thursday night is about the only worthwhile viewing for 80+%.

I have my kids' soccer practice Thursday night and game Saturday morning that intersect. Based on the timing, though, I can record them and watch them when I get home as I live in CA and it won't be that late. That's an example, though, that life will interfere with these new times more than the old ones.

Well, having not looked at the new format, I'm guessing that the first round will run on Thursday and I really could care less. It is always so long and drawn out and all I can think as those players walk across the stage is how overrated and overpaid they will be in the next level.

What bothers me is that the money rounds (2-3) will run on Friday, likely, and I'll have to find some lame excuse to skip out on hanging with the socials. Not digging this whole thing. I like the whole Draft holiday I had in which I would BBQ and drink from morning to night on both Saturday and Sunday.

Pretty lame.

I like the move, let them get all the hype out of the way on the first 32 picks in the first 24 hours, then maybe they will actually spend some time commenting on the picks as they come off the board on the 2nd and 3rd day. One more take on Sanchez or Bey over 8 hours of draft time and I was going to scream.
